Sorry, my bad. I only set my grandson's smart tv up for non-freeview channels.

    Thanks,

Got the TV set up all ok.  However, i have a problem with the freeview channels.  When i set the TV to detect channels by aerial, it only found 13 channels, and i know it should have found a lot more.  When i try to watch even those 13 channels (BBC1, ITV1, Film4 etc) the picture is very pixelated, jams and sometimes the signal goes away completely so the screen goes black and then it returns, albeit pixelated again.

Any ideas as to how i can rectify this?

    Can you re-tune the TV?

  • Just a thought, but are you sure that you have an aerial? Either in the loft or on the roof and, if you have one is it connected to that wall plate you have plugged your new tv into?

See if there's anything wrong with the aerial itself.  The problem may well lie at the other end of the cable in the wall.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

    Could be two 'problems' together.
Pixelated pictures are a symptom of inadequate signal from the antenna at the tv. As mentioned above you need to try and improve it.
Check all connections are solid - and you are using the cables with the correct ends (male/female).
You do have an arial/antenna connected.
Reception of digital transmissions require a minimum signal strength. Pixilation is evidence that it is insufficient, a little less and you loose picture, a bit more signal and all is fine. So, firstly check where your best transmitter is. Ensure your arial is pointing at it -you may need to use a map- ensure the elements on the antenna are pointing horizontally (H) or vertically (V) according th the transmitters signal polarisation.
It could be that a minor positional adjustment (it is critical) fixes the problem so even without the above info a bit of trial and error (using the signal strength display if your's has one in the setting menu) can make it better. Info on transmitters (and channels see below) at https://www.freeview.co.uk/help/wheres-my-local-transmitter
There may be other issues but try those first!

Secondly using the above web site see if your local transmittter is a primary/main one or a smaller local one. Some of the latter only transmit 13 tv channels!!!!
