Hi All,
Apologies fir posting what i imagine is an extremely simple question but i have recently bought a new TV, after my old TV gave up the ghost. I previously had Sky which i foiund very easy to set up but now i have bought a smart TV and choosing to use Freeview that is built in. I can see a connection on the wall which i presume is to connect the TV to the antenna so it can get a signal and then search for channels but i do not know what kind of cable i require? I have put up a picture of the connection.
Hope someone can help.

^^ as above commonly called a coaxial cable. To fit that socket you need a male end on the cable - fits into the small central female connector. If your tv has a similar socket it also needs a male plug to fit it thus a cable with two male ends otherwise you need a male to female coaxial cableThe two types shown at https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RF-Coaxial-TV-Aerial-Lead-Coax-Male-Plug-to-Plug-Black-Cable-GOLD-50cm-1m-2m-3m/263838278260?hash=item3d6dfca274:m:mj5n8WNw8wCuYFHQWko1fpQandThough not suggesting that is where you purchase from! Buy the cable length that suits you. For a short length say 1m cable quality will make little difference.2

^^ I've bought loads of cables of all kinds from Kenable and they've always been decent, can't vouch for the other supplier.

if it's a smart tv you don't need an aerial cable as long as you can join your home network. Turn it on and follow the set up0

A network connection wired or wireless will only give you the catch up channel apps. The freeview tuner in the set will want the aerial connection to give you the full collection of digital chanels. Just make sure that there is an aerial at the other end of that wall plate, I got caught out when my mother moved house and found just a wire in the roof space!

Thanks guys, i ordered this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-meter-Tv-Ariel-Cable-Lead-Extension-Cable-Male-To-Female-M-To-F-Black/173874243871?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649. Hope its the right one
I can see an aerial connected on the roof so presuming the wiring is all ok to the wall connection!0 -
That's an extension cable. Are you sure that's correct for your TV?

Indeed, I think they are supposed to be male at both ends!

Poundland often have an assortment of AV cables - Got a couple of HDMI<->mini-HDMI recently, and fairly sure they had M<->M TV cables.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0
