Has anyone cut their own hair yet?  How did it go?  Does anyone have any tips?
I have to bite the bullet soon as things are getting out of hand .  :(
Have got some clippers so may try a simple No. 1 on the sides, No.2 on top though suspect it will not go well ...

I am starting to wonder if I should. Really needed to visit hairdresser just before all this started and foolishly put it off. My hair is a total mess now. Need my roots touched up and more than a trim. Cant even dye it myself, I'm staying in someones flat and too worried about leaving dye splodges!

Yes same here flissh, left it just too late to get it cut.   I suppose someone with a pageboy type cut is easier to self-trim than other styles, I don't know.

I cut my own hair- but just need to lop the end off long hair.  Do not attempt this with ordinary scissors you have around - they will not be sharp enough, using them to cut paper etc blunts them over time and they will just push the hair away rather than cut through it.  Sewing scissors that have never been used for anything else may work - try on some hair from your hairbrush.

I have watched some YouTube videos on how to cut your own fringe which is all I’m bothered about as I don’t really care how long the rest of my hair gets. I feel fairly confident about trying it, and if I mess it up it’s not as if many people will see!

I've been cutting my own hair for quite a few years as I couldn't tolerate the hairdressers due to vertigo. I watched a few videos on u tube and read some websites, sorry I can't remember which ones now. With long hair it's quite easy to pull hair upwards into a ponytail and snip the ends off giving a long layered cut . Different angles give different types of tapered finish so research first. I did have a fringe for many years and just snipped that gently but I grew it out last year. I tend to have a messy bun type style which covers up all sorts and is very easy and comfy.  Good scissors are crucial though.

There are also lots of videos and advice on cutting men's hair. I cut my husband's and son's hair for many years too, both with clippers or a scissor cut. It's really not difficult if you read up first and have good scissors and a comb.

We have a hairdresser in our market town which gives free haircuts one afternoon a week but, as you can imagine, there are long waiting lists.  I had one booked ages ago for the end of April but obviously everything has been cancelled.  I’ll just have to wait but with the money saved by staying at home I’ll splash out and pay  :)

Did it yesterday. Absolutely loved it. Number 6 on the Wahl both sides and back. Chopped into with thinning shears. Haven’t coloured it for two years so it’s completely silver, platinum, aluminium, grey whatever colour.

Know when to stop,  and I just tidied it today where I saw a stray hair. Teenage children gave approving glances from Xbox or IPad. OH was just so relieved I hadn’t asked him to do it!

May even go shorter next time as I can see me doing it myself from now on.

Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.

Thanks for the link. I watched all the way through and loved it! I have had my hair really short like that not so long ago and really struggled to get a hairdresser to cut it how I wanted it. She did a much better job than the hairdressers who did mine. I'm so tempted to give that a go...
