MOT whilst car is repaired for no-fault claim
Hi... Can I get your thoughts on this please.
My car is currently being repaired following an accident about 5 weeks ago. It is being repaired under the 3rd parties insurance as they accepted complete liability. The repair has taken several weeks, as it is a big job, and there has been a delay on some of the parts. My MOT is due this Friday and I've been told that the car won't be ready for collection until at least next week.
In normal circumstances - should the garage doing the repair sort out my MOT too as I won't have had the opportunity to get it completed myself before the expiry date?
Given the 6 month MOT extension the government have introduced, do you think that puts the onus back on me to have the MOT carried out once I have my car back?
Thanks!

seems to me that an mot was not part of the accident , so is your responsability
your mot runs out on 3rd april , as things stand there is a rolling 6 mth extension on mot , and you will need to have new mot by 3rd sept (bad with maths first thing)0 -
The onus is on you, and it's 3rd October!

There is nothing to stop you asking if the garage will oblige

Might actually be a good thing, an MOT is a good opportunity to check that they did the repair to a good standard.0

An MOT simply follows a checklist of things to ensure a car is roadworthy, it does nothing to check the standard of a repair.[DELETED USER] said:Might actually be a good thing, an MOT is a good opportunity to check that they did the repair to a good standard.1 -
Panel fit, paint application, tracking, quality of parts used...are all things which will show the standard of a repair.[DELETED USER] said:Might actually be a good thing, an MOT is a good opportunity to check that they did the repair to a good standard.
None of which will be checked at an MOT.0 -
It checks that they fixed it to a road legal state though, e.g. new headlights properly aligned, exhaust not leaking etc.1

You need a third party to tell you those?[DELETED USER] said:It checks that they fixed it to a road legal state though, e.g. new headlights properly aligned, exhaust not leaking etc.0 -
Most people would. How many people crawl under their cars to check that the exhaust isn't leaking?AdrianC said:

If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
A leaky exhaust can be heard without getting under a car.Ectophile said:

OP it’s your responsibility to get the MOT done, most repair shops won’t have facilities to do MOTs0
