Do you wash your cat ?

There are a lot of videos on YouTube of people washing their cats. From having cats in years gone by, they never smelled badly or got contaminated with anything bad enough to need more than the odd 'spot' cleaning. Is cat washing a modern thing? Is it just done to make popular YT videos?

I have only once washed a cat. She managed to brush up against fresh paint and she would never have got it off and it wouldn't have good for her to lick either.
