There are a lot of videos on YouTube of people washing their cats.  From having cats in years gone by, they never smelled badly or got contaminated with anything bad enough to need more than the odd 'spot' cleaning.  Is cat washing a modern thing?  Is it just done to make popular YT videos?

I have house cats and - maybe this is because they use litter trays - they do sometimes get poo on their fur, if they are loose. Other than that, I don't bathe them, as it is a stressful process for the cat and ourselves!

Never in 46 years have I washed a cat, sponged parts down when they rolled  in something. One of them occasionally took a dip in our pond, on purpose or accidently he never said. They get combed regulalry and their coats are clean and very soft.

No.  Show cats are washed before shows I do know.    I wipe Delilah's bum with a baby wipe as she is now 17 tends to sit in the litter to pee so has damn litter sticking to her back end.

I had a poorly cat who needed bathing. She was very stoic about it. It can be needed when the reach old age. I’ve never bathed a young one: wouldn’t even dare to try!

I value life and limb far to much to bathe a healthy cat! I did have a very poorly cat who needed his back end bathing and that was difficult enough. Other than the few breeds that actively enjoy water, I would only consider bathing if it was absolutely necessary.
    It's not difficult!

I've turned the shower on all 3 if our cats at1 time or another. The oldest one loves splashing in puddles. My wife has a video of her playing in puddles and chatting happily, she only stopped when she realised she was being filmed.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.

No. Cats are self-cleaning! (Except in rare cases of illness/old-age meaning they can't groom).

Though we live next to fields so in winter ours will sometimes get grabbed and have his feet wiped when he comes in to stop him traipsing mud all over the carpets.  :D
