House Prices (what's next?)

  • 80% of peoples incomes are being backstopped by the government, those who have been furloughed.
In real terms, peoples incomes are level. 80% of a wage for the average worker is going to be more or less equivalent to their full time wage, because staying at home they don't need to pay their commuting costs, spend money on eating out. For self-employed people it seems that there might be a period where they may be some overlap and they can earn and get money as well.
I don't believe the government will pay people forever, but I believe the pay pledges will go on for longer than originally said, and the amount of bailouts for various sectors of businesses will have to increase. And hence, it'll end up costing us much more than what has been stated so far.
The central banks want inflation, and they will get it. QE did not give this because much of the money did not go directly to the consumers, instead being parked in assets... this time this is helicopter money in disguise and plenty of it. Reviving the economy will also I believe need large-scale public spending as giving banks money to lend is not effective.... A greater amount of money chasing the same amount of products invariably leads to price rises. In part that is why things cost more today than they did in 2000.
Don't get me wrong, if you bought a house today, like the dude above I believe in 8 years time you will be ahead in nominal terms....many people will be oblivious to the fact that in real terms it will be a loss due to inflation.
If you don't believe there will be inflation, explain why instead of just making assertions. That's why you are perceived the way you are on here.

Really???? Disagree. I (along with most) agree it will fall. Of course it will. I honestly don't care if it does. Will mean family members can buy. I have been saying for weeks that FTBs would be mad to buy right now.

I don't think The Arms is the place either, and they've 'paused' the other forum needed so, 4 pages in, it looks like the thread's staying. Prob better to keep this one current than have someone else starting yet another once this one disappears.
