Courier to DWP Wolverhampton

Hi All
This is a separate question but in an addition to my thread: National Insurance Credits as Job seeker, ESA or UC?
The person I'm helping wants to put in a complaint but cannot get to the PO due to self isolation for 3 months.
I've had a look and UPS can deliver a document for around a tenner but what I'd like to know is can they deliver to the DWP Mail Handling Site - or is it like HMRC where the "BX" postcode isn't real?
I have read threads on Royal Mail sending and the merits of special delivery vs proof of postage but if there is a thread that mentions a courier collecting from your house and delivering to DWP please feel free to comment it. (Not the discussion about couriers taking mail from the handling sites to other offices).
Thanks in advance :)

  • Due to what's going on atm I would hope that the vast majority of DWP staff will be handling the vast number of claims for UC for those left with no work and no money, in fairness I personally would leave complaints to the future.

I didn't find a definitive answer but it has been mentioned elsewhere that the DWP post room may be a Royal Mail centre and therefore not accept anything from other couriers (just like some PO Boxes are in RM offices - I can't think of exactly the right words). See the second reply on this thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6087693/royal-mail-alternative/p1

In terms of actually getting anything to them, the person whom you are helping could ask someone they trust to take the letter for them - that's kind of what the community help thing is there for. They wouldn't even have to open their door to hand it to someone, just pass it through their letterbox to someone the other side. The person could then bring the proof of postage back to them.

It's just occurred to me that perhaps if you or the person you are helping tries to get a quote or goes through the process to arrange the UPS service it should tell you if they can't service that postcode (which is what Hermes does).
However, I've just seen venison's response and twigged about your other thread and agree that a complaint in this situation is pointless. All the staff trying to process claims know the system simply cannot cope, and a complaint really isn't going to do anything to help.

    Hi venison
I mentioned my other thread in this post as it's relevant.
It sounds like you're saying you would hope that someone wouldn't want to complain as the DWP should be busy helping the vast claims for UC?
If you read my other thread you'll note in there the reason why a complaint was being though about in much more detail.
I hope you don't think that a complaint would be put in without thinking about those other claims for the sake of complaining. That certainly would not be the intention.

    Hi Spoonie Turtle
That's what I'm looking in to - due to location can't get someone out for around a week and wanted to try and get it in sooner.
I was thinking it could be the case that it would be in a post room - this is for the 'Wolverhampton Mailing Site B'.
Thanks for the thread. May not be an option

    Hi Spoonie Turtle
It seems the UPS one would have taken it with the Wolverhampton address - will check Hermes out (slower but if more reliable then better)
It's not up to me to decide if a complaint is completely pointless or not. There is some urgency and if they feel having something logged would help - doesn't matter if it doesn't get looked into for a long time if there is proof of an attempted start date that's what they feel is important.
As I said not so much a 'complaint' as there is a lack of alternative ways to communicate it to the dept.
  • I'd just use the easier option, RM special delivery.  It will get there and be logged in.  Getting it there by courier will make no difference if there are delays once its past the front door.

I don't know how to multiquote so in response to both your replies - yep, understood. (I may have misread the post above mine because it doesn't say what I thought it said!)

Another option - maybe - is if the person is on good terms with their regular postie, to ask if they could put it into a letterbox the next time they empty one on their round; I infer that 'due to location' possibly means a bit more rural, and as our postman empties a couple of letterboxes after he's done the deliveries he has popped in a letter for us once or twice in the past. (I'm not sure if he's technically supposed to or not, but he really is excellent from a customer service perspective!)

As I understand it from your other thread the complaint you wish to make is that you have been trying to claim ESA in order to get NI credits for Limited a Capability for Work for about a week but have been unable to do so. If I’ve understood that correctly a complaint in the current unprecedented circumstances seems to me frivolous. In any case, as explained in the other thread, the delay will have no material impact on the outcome of the claim.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
