O/S Daily Saturday 28 March 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Bright sunny and cold start to the day again.
DH watching catchup tv, DS! still in his pit, I'm bathed, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips and beans for the menfolk, I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight menfolk will be having chicken pie, potatoes/mash/chips, peas and gravy. I'll be having a use-up of stuff from the fridge - a stir fry type meal.
I'm heading into work this morning, much to my surprise - expecting it to be busy though.
Did a shop yesterday and got most of what I wanted - was really pleased to see that people were being very good about keeping away from each other and being respectful towards each other, although there are the small collection of people not bothering.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone
Thank you nmlc for starting off this thread. Unfortunately we have woken up to the devastating news that Steve's mum had passed away during the night. We are grateful that she went in her sleep and with her loved ones around her but Steve is very upset that he couldn't be with her as he needed to stay home with me. The family are planning a celebration of her life once this lockdown is over so that is of some comfort. I believe the funeral will be webcast as well as Steve's family are all in Dorset.
Today will be spent supporting Steve and my children as they don't know yet as they are all still asleep. I don't know how they are going to react as their Aspergers can make them a bit different. I must try and get hold of Lilly as well and let her know too.
Take care everyone and give your loved ones a big hug if you are able xx

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A glorious sunrise which is now being overtaken by black clouds! I am not much liking the thought of winter coming back either!
Not a great deal of excitement in store for this weekend. Just more groundhog days! I am just thankful for smartphones! I have just been reading an article by Rory Cellan-Jones saying how life would have been so different if this had happened in 2005 before the launch of a lot of the on-line stuff today's young people have grown up with.
DD will now be on her way to work after days off and dreading it. I just hope she will go back in to improved protection for the staff, not to mention the elderly in their care. I wouldn't be a mum if I didn't worry about her getting infected and passing it on to the girls as well. I know relatives want to visit their loved ones but I hope this has been reviewed too.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) all round, We are more and more in need of them with each day that goes by. Clocks go forward tonight and mine is going forward by 4 MONTHS!! Take care all xxx
Cross posting with DUMPLING. I was so sorry to read back and find your post. My sympathies are with you and STEVE and all the family. xx

Good morning all,
dumpling sorry to hear your news today. My condolences to you and your family (and a big cyber hug too).
My next door neighbour loaned me her jet wash yesterday. I wiped it with anti bac, gave the HT some gloves and set him loose. I had to finish the last bit because he was cold and wet but it's done and clean. I then cleaned the jet wash, put it back in the alley that I share with neighbour and texted my thank yous.
Our home made pizza worked well last night. An easy pizza dough recipe from Jack Monroe and toppings from fridge/freezer. Not sure what tonight's evening meal will be yet. I was going to give myself a day off from house jobs today but I have the window vac on charge downstairs to do the french windows and I want to trim round the edges of the grass if it stays sunny. The garden furniture will also need another quick wipe down after the HT's efforts with the jet wash....
Take care all of you12 -
Dumpling, I'm so sorry for your loss, it must be so difficult a this strange time.
Groundhog day 6 begins, although yesterday was a bit different because Chris brought us some more supplies on his way home. He called in at a big Tesco and was astonished at how empty of goods it was, it gave him a bit of a boost because he had been worrying about stocking the stores he's responsible for in North London and Hertfordshire but he said they were in a much better position with regard to things like pasta and rice (one of the German supermarket companies). He stood in the garden and we had a bit of a chat so that was lovely.
Worryingly Laura said that there had been a death among one of the residents in the small village where the Yorkshire house is. Hopefully it's an isolated case and I still think they will be safer up there than in London. I'm sneezing away with my hay fever today, but otherwise we're both fine so I'm thankful for that.
I hope you all have a good day.12 -
Good morning folks.DUMPLING - so sorry to hear about Steve's mum and my condolences. A later celebration sounds perfect.TA - yes, imagining back to the 'dark days' is sobering. At least now we are all mostly able to keep in touch much easier. In my youth the family had one phone which was in the cold hall and only used rarely. And it was a party line.I woke up at 5.00a.m. so watched the sun rise. I'm now all ready to head out to the supermarket to pick up the essentials for the week. As it's payday weekend I expect them to be busier than 'normal'.Yesterday I managed to get time to change DM's bed linen when she went to the bathroom! It's difficult for her to be out of bed for any length of time so I'm grateful to her digestion!Life goes on, albeit in different ways. I hope that everyone can stay safe until this cloud passes over. Despite the difficulties I am still refusing to play Scrabble with DM, it's just so depressing.Happy Saturday to everyone.13

Dumpling - so sorry for you all xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.12 -
Good morning, grey and chilly here this morning. So sorry to hear your news Dumpling, how sad. It's youngest Dgs's birthday today , he's only 2 so he doesn't know. I popped a home made card through the letterbox yesterday, and spoke to them from a distance, it seems so strange, We will maybe have a facetime with them, or go and look through their windows.TA I laughed at your phrase "up and down like a bride's knickers" - ths's exactly the way I feel. One minute I'm optimistic, the next I'm thinking we're all doomed. I should think a lot of people are the same.Thank God we've got technology, I know I've already said this, but what a difference it makes, I'm in a couple pf whatsapp groups, and there's email and Facebook.I've got a bag of crafty things for Dgd, as we were going to make Easter cards together before all this blew up. It's just cheap card blanks, and i've done some nice die cuts, also some craft mags she can cut pictures from to use on the cards. It'll keep her busy for a while, she loves to craft. I'll tell DD in advance so i can leave them on the step then text.I've had a bad night, was up at 4am wide awake, then went back at 5.15 to warm up - the next thing I knew it was 7.30, so I've had a bit of sleep and don't feel too bad. It's now raining here, the forcast is poor for the weekend, wintry showers brrr.Nelski, hope you're all right.DH had a slight cold which he caughr from me, and now of course he has a cough, it always goes to his chest, There's no way he could go into a supermarket, people would run a mile, so if we needed anything he can't go. Must admit, it worries me, if he did get CV it affects the chest, and he's had pneumonia before and pleurisy.Well I'll stop waffling and hope you are all staying well.Take care folks11

Morning all! Bright and sunny again, luckily, because todays jobs involve digging, albeit very slowly. I did quite a lot yesterday between doing one hting or another. I even organised my spices in alphabetical order....I have some plants to put out into the ground, some washing to put on the line, and a few other small jobs to sort out. I may even attempt bread today...Got some wholemeal flour in the cupboard, out of date but I'll give it a go, and a banana bread cake to make...My condolences dumpling..Hope everyone stays safe
Scrumptious Saturday
