and therein lies the solution, cut off the power and internet access to the cameras on the sites themselves , problem solved , or equip angle grinder man with an angle grinder once more , I am sure he wont charge much

I don't condone the police spending time investigating this petty crime when lives are at stake. I hope it will be low down the BiB/GiB's priorities, but any time spent on it will detract from the more important issues currently facing us.

I'm surprised that something like this has not happened before.
While i can see some satisfaction  in destroying something criminal damage - which is what this is must not be condoned
there are a few real safety issues from the action of cutting down the poles, from exposed wiring to trip hazards etc.

If people want to put a stop to the PPC ANPR systems there are far better ways to do it that wouldn't damage the equipment, who would bat an eyelid if two people in hi-vis armed with a ladder went up and placed then carefully secured a bin bag over the camera equipment?
These cameras are mounted and positioned on adjustable mounts so that they can be re-positioned as /if required a set of allen keys would assist in re-positioning at the sky  without damage

Likewise, if the location of the off switch was to be made known then anyone could switch it off

And then theres also creative positioning of signage or other equipment where practical
