Cheap and cheerful recipes wanted please

Hello
I am not sure if this is the correct place but i have been looking for a recipes thread and can't seem to find one (it maybe somewhere i just cant seem to see it)
I am struggling to find cheap and cheerful recipes as when i look online they all contain about a million ingredients that i don't have hanging around and it would cost me a fortune.
So i thought i would make a post for idea of recipes as over the years on DFW i have gained quite a few recipes but nowhere to store them.
At the moment i am on the lookout for a banana cake recipe that doesnt contain baking powder as i have none but plenty of bananas needed using.
If anyone has any recipes they would like to share or are looking for please post below

One of my favourites atm is this marble cake really easy and tastes so nice and most of all cheap!!

  • Really obvious question but do you not have any self raising flour? What about making something like banana flapjacks?

    Hi

This is the banana loaf I make for work
    2lb loaf tin - lined
    375g caster sugar
    375g SR flour
    4 eggs
    250ml veg oil
    125ml milk
    3/4 bananas
    1tsp cinnamon
I use the all in one method, beaten until its smooth and glossy then fold in half the bananas mashed and half chopped. Bake for about 45 mins

Mary Berry's banana and honey teabread doesn't require baking powder. It's a bit heavy on the honey, though could be useful if you've got some that needs using up.

Not a recipe, as I don't like banana flavoured anything, but eat bananas. You can freeze them in their skins, or peeled and cut into chunks to use in recipes later. I do this when they are going off quickly, as they are apt to do, and either give to a friend who bakes a lot for charity, or give small frozen slices to my dog as a cooling treat when it's hot.

I do this too. I save them up until I have enough for a banana bread. Sometimes I buy the bags reduced for dirt cheap and freeze them.

Have a look at the Raspberry Oat Slices recipe on Allrecipes.co.uk  site if you have some jam.
It doesn’t have to be raspberry!
I have been mixing up whatever I have and am going to give marmalade a go!
If I haven’t got any brown sugar I use white and I reduce it by one tablespoon....jam has enough sweetness...and it works.

  • If you have self raising flour this is my tried and tested (repeatedly!) recipe that everyone at MSE Towers seem to enjoy
    2-3 very ripe bananas
2 cups of self raising flour (or 2 cups of plain and 4tsp baking powder)
    1 cup of sugar
    2 eggs
3 tbsp of oil (I actually tend to glug this in... I'm a "that looks about right" kinda cook )
chocolate chips if you like :)

Mix till smooth and bake in a lined or greased loaf pan at 180c until a skewer comes out clean (about 30 ish mins depending on ovens :)
