O/S Daily Friday 27 March 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 still in his pit, I'm bathed, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Cold bright and frosty start to the day - this is forecast to change from tomorrow.
Dinner last night was gammon, I bought a joint last week so we had that with egg and chips, I had salad and only a few chips with mine. Tonight I'll be finding what I have in the fridge and making something from that likely to be a stir fry type of veg meal. Menfolk are likely to get something with chips.
To my surprise I'm working this Saturday - I assumed we wouldn't be working but we are just telephones/remote/online help.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thank you for the thread nmlc.
I've been up for a few hours, sleep pattern improved but now deteriorating again. So I've been messing about. I've got a job to do this morning, it can be done by phone, then I'll be able to complete a report.
I failed in virtue yesterday, did not do the ironing but the dining room is clean though no longer tidy. My son has been making bread, flour all over the table but lovely bread later.
I've been out to feed the birds, the forecast is good but it i s very cold so far, one of the squirrels is eating the food now.
Today is muck out the bathroom. I use the term advisedly.
Hope everyone's day is reasonable and that you can find some good bits.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back17 -
Morning folks and thanks for the start NMLC. A cold and frosty start here too but at least the sun is shining, which cheers the soul a bit in these dark times. Hope everyone is keeping safe and well.
Yesterday lifted my spirits enormously. After 11 days without actual company DS and I sat out the back garden (well apart) enjoying the warm sunshine and chatting. He stayed for about an hour and a half just nattering on about this and that and of course THAT too. Both DS and DD and the girls are good at keeping in touch with daily calls, texts and little video calls but to have actual human company was lovely. Sadly the days of sitting outside are coming to an end.
DS took away my little shopping list (just the usual veg, fruit and dairy) but I told him no rush at all, just fit in with when they do theirs, as, now they are rationing the numbers entering the sm at any one time, shopping could end up a full day's event. I hate being reliant on the kids for getting me stuff but needs must and it's impossible even trying to register for home deliveries, let alone actually getting a delivery slot.
So what to do today? Not a lot but that much postponed one room a day thorough Spring clean awaits for when the urge hits me! Meanwhile it will be the usual lick and a promise. I am ashamed of myself and my slothful ways, I never used to be so lackadaisical.
Have a good day folks if you can and I hope you and your families are keeping safe and well. Take care all. xxxx DP1 your poor little DGD your news about her never seems to get much better. I hope the op (when it can happen) improves things for her.

Hi nmlc and all to follow,
dp1, poor littlle gd, I hope she'sable to have her op soon and go home, what a worrying time for her mum and you.
I hope everyone else is ok. I woke with an overwhelming urge to go out which technically I could but it won't be very fair on Steve and as I'm being strict with him I'll bite the bullet.
Chris is bringing us some supplies on his way home from work tonight so we'll see him briefly from a distance. Apart from that it's going to be a very samey day, sewing, reading, internet and tv. The National Theatre Live is going to be showing some of it's films for free on their YouTube channel if anyone is interested. This week it's One Man Two Guvnors with James Corden which we went to see last year and found very funny. We're not finding their channel very easy to navigate though, hopefully we'll get it working.
TA, The Royal Opera House is showing the ballet Peter and the Wolf on its channel so the girls might find that interesting.
Stay safe out there (ayone remember Hill St Blues).15 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC. Hope you and the family are ok.TA, I'm sorry you're feeling down - it is the isolation and the clampdown an all our activities isn't it. Enough to make anyone feel a bit bleurggh. I had a blip the other day when I just wandered the house gazing out of the windows, and I don't live alone like you.Tell yourDs to come round, it will do no harm, you'll be careful I'm sure. Are you in any whatsapp groups - I'm in 2 family ones and it's a lifeline. Little Sparkle is lovely, hope she doesn't do the blind thing again or you''ll be needing new ones!! Hope you're feeling a bit better anyway,Another fine day here but it's set to change and become colder at the weekend, we've had a nice few days though.Redruby, that docker's hanky man sounds revolting, yuck. Your Dh did the right thing coming home.Nels hope you are all right, do you have exercises to do ?I'm going to make a card for DGs's 2nd birthday, it's tomorrow, and we'll either have a video link up or go and peer through their windows. I saw a little handprint he'd left on one of our windows and It brought tears to my eyes, I seem to be ridiculously emotional at the mo. I think another kick up the arris is due.Anyway thinking of you all, hope everyone gets through their day all right.Take care folks15

Good morning folks.Normally I'd be going out right now to be at Marks for opening time to avoid crowds. Today I'll give it a miss, tomorrow I'll do two shops instead. I really want to go out but must be sensible. There's enough fresh food to last until tomorrow and more than enough books to read. The most odd thing is not being able to talk to DM. She's almost totally deaf so I'd need to get very close to her. We're communicating by text! 🤣
I hope everyone can keep safe, bored but safe. Happy Thursday to all.13 -
A word to the wise,Gers.
Yesterday I went early to Marks for their old and vulnerable hour. The car park was packed and the queue outside stretched on for ever. I don't know how long it took to get in ! I left and went to a small local Morrison's. Not as much variety, perhaps, but I got what I needed with no queue , and not many people at all.13 -
Thanks Happycas - that's just what I imagined would happen. As we don't need things on the short supply list (loo rolls, tissues, cleaning stuff) I'll be going in a bit later to avoid pensioner hour. Same with Waitrose tomorrow. I've got a delivery slot booked for mid April so will keep that going.13

Morning
Last nights clap for the NHS was so emotional...I for one owe them so much and the simple and clear rules they are asking us to follow seems so little to ask and yet still people bend the rules to suit them its non sensical.
Yesterday I really felt I was moving backwards not forwards with lots of pain and unresponsive leg, think it really got to me as I had an awful nightmare that it had happened again had to get up and shake myself down and it turned out I was laying on my arm so it had gone even deader than it already is....very scary. Scarlett I have a few exercises but not enough so Im going to find some more on the internet today and crack on with the improvement goal.
Did some work yesterday for the new customer I got just before all this kicked off it was so nice that they asked me and granted it was unpaid but the fact they asked me was very positive for possible work in the future. Also my next door neighbours piled round as a family and cut and tidied my front garden ....so good of themIf my shop includes flour this week which I doubt it I will do some baking for them to say thanks.
So today looks like last day of sun so I need to make the most of it. Food will be whatever I fancy or should I say whatever I can find lurking. Hope everyone is doing OK and staying safe x16 -
Morning all.
I have to tell you that in the half hour or so it takes me to tap out my posts on my tablet, with my one tapping finger, about 10 people post in the meantime. So if I don't pick up on something important, or even not important, in someone else's post it's because I won't have seen it yet.
TA don't beat yourself up. I was born lacksidaisical and over the years have honed it to a fine art. I am now ashamed to say that when I think I ought to do something, I talk myself out of it because "no one will see it." It appears that I only keep my house clean and tidy-ish for the sake of my reputation. How shallow is that?
I do have to admit that I am quite enjoying the solitude. Having spent my life in the middle of a three-ring-circus the peace and uninterrupted day is refreshing. Plenty of human contact by frequent phone calls from family and friends and I am a happy bunny.
ScarletRibbons, aw missing that 2nd birthday is hard and I quite understand that the hand print on the window was your undoing. It's the little things that get you, isn't it?
Gers I understand your frustration at not being able to communicate with your DM. My father was profoundly deaf at the end of his life and it made getting through to him very difficult. We invented a sort of semaphore for all the practical things, but most important was the hug and, "I love you," whispered in his ear. You are doing well and I think we all admire your dedication to your mother.
And that's as far as I have got.
I hope everyone else is surviving and that Nelski is doing her exercises, dp1's little gd has life made easier for her soon, poor little mite, and RR is finding some treats to keep her going until she starts on the next stage of her journey. Sorry, mind is now blank.
I just have my hour's Facetime with DGD to look forward to. Yesterday we did spelling, reading, tens and units and a story.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Lazy is a very strong word. I prefer to call it "selective participation."I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.14 -
