Sky mobile. Can you use override services I.e 18185

Looking at getting a Sky Mobile contract and would like to know if you can use the likes of 18185 for making cheap international calls and 0845 type calls?

Looking at the terms and conditions it does state that indirect access is chargeable but is 18185 is classed as indirect access?

Have searched the site but only found some threads relating to land lines which were rather old and gave conflicting opinions.

  • Depending on where you want to call, try Ringo.co they currently offer free calls to some countries, including USA and Spain. The system works by registering your mobile number with them, calls are routed via an 03xxx non geographic number. If you have "unlimited" or at least a bundle of UK minutes, it can be totally free. You don't have to enter credit card details unless you want to make chargeable calls.

From what I recall, the old landline low cost calling numbers had an alternative way to call them from mobiles, but wasn't the same low rate as when calling from landlines.

They usually have a geographic number you call from mobiles, so that part is usually included in your inclusive minutes.

Thank you for the replies but unfortunately they don’t really answer the question that I wanted to ask. Thread title is probably a little misleading and should have just asked about indirect calls.

I know about the 18185 geographic numbers but I don’t know if sky have blocked them. Also in other old treads posters have commented that they used indirect access yet sky charged them as if they had connected directly.

So the question really is can you use indirect access on sky mobile and if so is it free or have they found a way to charge you?

Didn’t know about ringo will check them out later.

  • Prefixing a call with “18456”, or whatever, worked with a BT landline. Mobile networks do not recognise these prefixes. Ringo works by using an app that calls via an 03xxx  number and has good call quality. If you call the USA, Spain, or a few other countries, it’s good value.

18185 for mobile customers is a local call  020 81 80 2828. If your mobile is registered you then pay the dial on fee..But why?

    Ringo is cheaper

The 18185 service can alao be accessed via a freephone 080 number.
From a mobile phone it cannot be accessed using the digits 18185.
