weird laptop wireless problem

My laptop's a bit tempramental at the best of times, but today I'm quite tempted to throw it out of the window.
Am connected to the wireless network, but cannot get on the internet. Have tried all sorts of things after doing a search for this problem on both google and here, but no banana.
Have checked router settings, disabled encryption, checked firewall settings, disabled firewall on laptop, have tried pinging google, have also tried pinging the router (linksys WAG354g 192.168.1.1) but it just times out, have tried reinstalling the drivers for the wireless card, but nothing. The laptop can see the router, and the the router shows the laptop as connected to the network, but it's just the internet that's not happening. Any suggestions, or shall I go with the 'throwing it out of the window' idea?

have you phoned your isp to check if they have a problem0

Well I'm using the connection on my main pc which has the modem/router hardwired, so I'd guess it's not an ISP problem.0

That was already switched off, so no luck there either.
This laptop's been a pain in the @rse for months now.0 -
Check the channel on the router. some laptop wireless adaptors have problems with anything above channel 12 (I think). give that a try.0

tried that, no luck.
I hadn't changed anything in my settings between last using the laptop and today, although a few days ago I did have loads of trouble with the update to Comodo firewall pro. Ended up uninstalling it.0
