Now, more than ever, the simpler things in life are often the most valued.0 -
That really isn't the point, and rather patronising under the circumstances.

It's absolutely the point. You said yourself you have no money and have to get them something else. You have two options: get them something that costs nothing, or get them nothing. Nothing patronising about that, simply factual based on your own statement.

Thank all for your posts regarding the Travelodge hotels. Everyone seems to have valid things to say and beliefs re. right and wrong. Having checked Travelodge website again a couple of minutes ago, they are still not allowing refunds and the voucher scheme stands. There is certainly no mention of a refund or voucher + 25%. What am I missing?

I do wonder why people give up their time here to help with people like you on here sometimes...2 -
Someone said above that all I had lost was a night away. I said that actually I had lost the money, because now I have to find new money to get a present. If you find it hard understanding the nuance of the situation then I am sorry for you. The help I require is about having my legal right to a refund honoured by a company who is trying to shirk it (not travelodge). You may not agree they should return my money, but as it stands, legally, you are wrong.

I personally didn't ask him to give up his time to help me. He hasn't helped me with the problems I came to the forum with. He has suggested I make my 60 year old parents and arts and crafts project for their birthday rather than pursue a company for a refund of the money that was supposed to be their present. Not pleasant, and not necessary either.

Well if your lack of gratitude is hereditary, then I agree that my suggestion was not helpful. They wouldn't appreciate it.

I was staying in travelodge the day they closed, had a 4 day booking from Sunday to Thursday and was asked to leave with 2 hours notice! The woman was really apologetic and let us stay in the room an extra hour as we couldn’t get trains until then back home! They refunded all the nights as when I checked out the manager was on the phone to reception which was lucky so asked about refund and the manager allowed a full refund! Not sure where people stand who have bookings for the future though! Now Trainline that’s a different kettle of fish!0
