TUI refunds thread

We were due to fly out to Jamaica on 15th April, package costing almost £5k between the 2 of us. I had been patiently waiting for them to conatct us rather than calling them myself, as I totally understand that those travelling in the next few days are most urgent.
However over the last week there has been talk of a change in law so that they can only offer a voucher not a refund, which I would not be interested in. Therefore on 26th March I took the plunge and called - got through in around an hour, and the friendly lady organised a refund via BACS to my current account (I paid on credit card originally).
Hoping the refund will appear in my account next week. So for those of you still waiting, there is hope, keep trying!2 -

Sorry I should have said, our trip was with TUI. I'm not feeling safe until I see the money in my account, but I have everything crossed. I'm not classed as canelling the holiday, as TUI had already emailed me around a week or so earlier, to advise that my holiday was cancelled, and that someone would contact me regarding rebook or refund.1

They were quite clear with me. Refund would go back they way it came within 5 days. Of course it hasn't. I'd be really sceptical if they offered a bacs refund for a credit card transaction. I've never known a company to do this. Maybe at this point they are just saying anything to get people off the phone. Saying that I hope I'm wrong. If you do get a refund you will be the only person I know of who has and will have jumped a pretty big queue.1

Yes I thought this very odd too. I didn't ask for it, it was the only option they offered to have a refund via BACS. Will see in the next few days, I did get an email confirmation at least, but time will tell.1

Given all your challenges I decided rather than to pay my final payment, to take their offer to move my holiday and moved it for a different holiday next year, delaying the final payment to this time next year. Should they go to the wall it is Atol protected and will be able to get my deposit back. Also means I am rebooking before loads of people have their money back and or have the opportunity to move their holidays, so hopefully at worst, the prices wont go down.0

We're in a similar situation, except we were 4 days into a 16 day tour of South Africa when TUI cancelled it and at least arranged flights home, albeit 3 days later. However, I have it in writing from TUI that we will get a pro rata refund within 28 days (letter dated 19th March). Be interesting to see if they live up to this promise and how they calculate pro rata, I can guarantee it won't be the same way I think it should be done.0

Yes we were told our refund was processed on the 18th of March still nothing very worrying tried calling and couldn’t tell us anything, we could really use the money as my husband is self employed and not working at the minute can’t believe more isn’t being done, I have asked for a refund time scale on their Instagram post and it was swiftly deleted seems like they are only encouraging people to make payments on their future holiday and amendments0

Took 4 minutes to start a section 75 claim today (entire time on phone, wasn't even put on hold), so not wasted much time on this as of yet. The same can't be said about trying to deal with TUI.3
