Can you send in the form to transfer the registered keeper back to the finance company?neilmcl said:
A little caution about cancelling tax/insurance etc. As long as the vehicle, as any other goods for that matter, are in your possession, you have a duty of care, and if your are the registered keeper then you have a duty to have it taxed and insured if it's on the road.[DELETED USER] said:Yeah, you don't have to pay for it, your contract has ended. Don't pay, cancel your insurance on it. If you don't cancel your insurance and it gets hit your insurance will have to pay out so make sure you do it. Don't renew the tax either, tell them it's on the road and where to collect it and it's up to then to SORN it or pay the tax.
They are just blagging you, trying to make you pay their costs.
I suppose the other option is SORN it and charge them £5/day for storage.0

If it is a lease, I doubt very much that the OP is registered keeper on DVLA's records which is what counts for vehicle excise and continuous insurance.[DELETED USER] said:

In my lease document it clearly states that I am responsible for insuring it until it is collected
risk in the vehicle remains with me until it is returned
I would be very cautious about some of the advice given here if I were the OP and their lease states the same
Telling the lease company this does not apply and having it uninsured may not end well0

Could you store it securely? I'd be tempted to get it off the road and leave the insurance. Of course if anything did happen it'll all be on you.0

 £5/day, £50/day, £500/day?[DELETED USER] said:

 Really?0

£500 seems a bit much but £5/day is not unreasonable for storing a car.The_Rainmaker said:

Depends where you live, have you seen how much parking spaces cost to rent in London?0

Arval have just got back to me about my lease, they asked for pictures, milometer readings and have now offically ended lease.
They do however insist its my responsibility to keep the car insured until collection, So im faced with a £450.00 insurance bill for a car i carnt actually drive, doesnt seem fair to me.

Perhaps you could arrange to deliver it to them...?Maksto said:Arval have just got back to me about my lease, they asked for pictures, milometer readings and have now offically ended lease.

You will get the bulk of your £450 back when you cancel your insurance, but it still sucks.
You should be able to get insurance much cheaper than that if you can SORN it though.0

Arval have now thankfully said they will take responsibility for the car as long as it is no longer driven.
I recommend anyone in same position gets confirmation in writing though to be safe.1
