Old Style Daily Tuesday 24th March

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.

Good morning everyone, I can't sleep so I thought I would get us started. My friend rang me last night to say her daughter Jess was rushed into hospital with the virus as she couldn't breathe and her oxygen levels went down to 80. I have watched this woman grow up from a little girl and now she is a mum to two small children herself. My friend was frantic as she can't visit her and couldn't even give her a hug goodbye. Please, if you believe, can you say a little prayer for Jess and her family.
This is the second person I know well now that has gone down with this wretched virus and it is really hitting home. I think my CPN is ringing me today if he is ok and I need to have a proper talk to him as my anxiety has rocketed again. Lee needs to get his prescription today and that is worrying me too. I just feel like a mother hen wanting her chicks to stay home and stay safe under my wings.
I managed to clean and clear my desk yesterday but that was about it so today I will be tackling my bedroom. I have a load of clean clothes to put away and lots of washing to be done. The bed needs stripping too and changing but Steve can do that. He wants to cut the grass if it is a nice day and make a start on clearing the bottom of our garden. We have a small wooden wendy house that has been taken over by nature so it will all need to be chopped back and the wendy house dismantled ready for Lee to put his planters there. He is very keen to grow veggies this year and with the way things are, I think it will be a very good idea.
Right, I'm off to make a cup of tea and watch something funny on tv to take my mind off things. Hope you all stay safe, take care xx

Morning everyone
dumpling - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Light cold and frosty start to the day here, but sun is forecast. Was a lovely sunny day yesterday.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS2 now getting ready for work, and I'm bathed, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was scampi, chips/jacket potato, beans for the menfolk, I had baked fish and veg. I remembered to get chicken out to defrost for tonight, I'll do some potatoes and veg and gravy with it.
Work yesterday was strange, busier than we expected to be, but I'll be going in unless i get instruction to stay at home, but we're still supposed to be working - if we're not off sick, I'm not so, will be expecting to work from the office most possibly working just on the telephones not face to face contact. After the announcement last night I expect myself and DH will have to continue to work but DS1 thinks he will be off for a while - he'll know more today. We'll see - today will hopefully see some direction.
Spoke to all our oldies that need to be extra careful, no-one needs shopping etc at this moment and they seem to have at last got the message, they need to stay at home. We'll see.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Dumpling what a worrying time for you i have said a prayer for Jess . DD2 has gone to work she tells me they are getting lots of false negatives on the tests as it sits down at the bottom of the lungs so when they test if the cough doesn't come from the bottom it won't show I had hoped that she would be safe on Oncology but it appears not with at least 3 patients taken to the covid ward and it looking likely a colleague has the virus now they do not have the same ppe as the covid ward so i hope they get it to all staff as soon as .
Right the positive we have some sun today so may do a bit in the garden will change the beds and get some washing on the line . DD2 has booked her blessing for next year though at this rate it might have to be the wedding if the lockdown is extended by a week then the wedding will be off and she will rebook hoping its third time lucky still if they can get through this then they will be fine to be honest we are all pretty resigned to a fluctuating date.
Gers I have serious flat envy your mums flat looks lovely
Ruby thinking of you as always
I know there are lots of us with worries so i just want to say I am so pleased to have my virtual friends in this difficult time to chat to its nice to see what others are doing and to share our highs and lows and to support each other through these and other tough times so from me THANK YOU xxSlava Ukraini14 -
Morning folks and thanks DUMPLING for the early start. You would not be the only one having a sleepless night sadly. Obviously worry about the health situation being top of the list, followed by the financial worries which will affect a lot of people unable to work. I hope Jess is responding to treatment and soon home with her family.
No matter what their age we all worry about our children and want to keep them safe. DD works in a Resource Centre for the elderly. It's not a very big unit, spread into 4 separate wings, each addressing a different health problem. Yesterday there was concern over possible symptoms in one of the wings. That wing is now closed as best it can be but there's every likelihood it will soon affect the whole unit. and looking after so many already poorly people will be a nightmare. It already operates with not enough staff so once they are affected too it will be a big problem. I worry about her if she gets it and then of course passes it on to the DGDs.
It's come at a bad time for DS too. Although it would never have been a good time for anybody! He is being made redundant end of the month. He's known about it for a few months but obviously didn't want to leave early and lose the redundancy money. He was lucky to get another job to just go into but, as this is not essential work, that won't happen. The redundancy won't last too long when it's the only income. His DP opened her lovely new jewellery and gift shop in December so obviously that will have to close leaving another problem for them.
Oh well sorry about my moan and, at the moment at least, the family are fit and well so that's the main thing. I fear lots of people won't be so lucky as this silent killer moves among us. Stay safe and well all of you and a virtual big (((HUG)) for you all. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"16 -
Morning, another sunny day. I've lots to do again, some work, some domestic stuff.
Enforced lockdown won't be huge fun but it seems the only way to prevent people from gathering in groups to do exactly as they please.
Dumpling, that must be awful and I understand how worried you must be.
Hope everyone is as safe as you can be.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back16 -
Good morning folks.Well, there's a fine thing! Inevitable though not as stringent as I was expecting. I'm thankful that our building work has finished, just in time. There's enough fresh food to last until the weekend so I am refusing to worry about something I can't change. I'm not sure if the plasterer will come today or not, or doesn't matter in the scheme of things. My thoughts are with those who are struggling, it'll all pass soon enough.Happy Tuesday to all.17

Morning all! Yesterday seemed a day doomed t things breaking or not being suitable so all i did was sow my tomato seeds in the end. The strimmer broke, just went kaput after switching on, the gutter clips were the wrong ones and other small niggly things. Ah well, today may be better in equipment staying in one piece terms....It's another beautiful sunny day here, another day ripe for wrestling with the garden...just kidding, i love a garden potter. We moved some wood yesterday to mark out a temporarily placed raised bed thing so I can grow some more stuff this year. Filling it might be a problem, I've enough for about a quarter, so may be phoning for a delivery of top soil. And then coming up with ingenious ways to keep the local cats from playing in a giant litter tray
I did rip down an old fence panel and the uprights that were keeping them in, but honestly, they just popped right out they were so rotten. That will be broken down for kindling for later on in the year. OH is poised and ready to start painting the fence again. More help received from him yesterday, so message might have been taken on board...
Not much else to report today, and I'm only slightly compos, so I may return afterStay safe you lovely lot....

Morning All
I'm waiting to hear if I have to go into work today, if I do it will be a mad dash to the shower!
I have no washing! We have had great weather for the last few days so all beds have been changed, winter coats washed and anything else not nailed down has had a wash! It's very windy here and due to rain later so I may not get to the allotment again. If not I can sow some seeds here as I bought potting compost last week.
Thinking of you all, take care and stay safe. XX13 -

Hi everyone,
Day 1 in the Big Brother house. We're wondering how the promised deliveries to highly vulnerable people are going to work. Hopefully we'll be able to manage.
Dumpling, I don't believe but I will keep your friend's daughter in my thoughts. Like a lot of us we have worries about Chris specifically because he is a key worker in North London. However, he is young, fit and healthy so I'm trying not to dwell on it. They are worried about his mother-in-law who is vulnerable and living in a very small house with people going out to work (although that might change now). Chris and Crystal would have her to stay but he's also likely to bring it home so we offered them our camper van if they want it for her to live in.
Stay safe everyone.15
