The garage should be closed if they are following the government proclamation.  Garages are non essential.

I have an MoT tomorrow; I understand that these are continuing in Italy which have had tougher measures than here so presume it's business as normal? Otherwise how do I comply with the law?
In reply to the previous comment, I believe MoT's are considered essential and so would servicing be for essential workers who have to get to work by car.

Garages are considered an essential service and so, even as other businesses reduce their service or shut down entirely, MOT stations should remain open and you should be able to book a test as usual.

  • Garages are on the list of businesses that are allowed to stay open.

My main dealer garage has cancelled my service today (JCT600 VW), and the next nearest main garage, 18 miles away, are also now closed for servicing.
Annoying for me as it's a lease car with the service due in a few days, which requires a main dealer service.

My local BMW dealership has closed with immediate affect. They're saying nobody can come in to collect their vehicles if they're already in the workshop and the priority will be with key workers to able to get their vehicles back. Presumably normal customers will have to wait.

Garages are explicitly excluded from the closure order - precisely because key-workers need vehicles.

Of course, any business is entitled to close without being ordered to...

Our MOT and service is booked for 12 April - but the garage is closing from tonight.  Service isn't desperate as the car is just 5 years old and (very) low mileage.  But what about being able to drive after the MOT has expired? And the insurance? We don't qualify for home deliveries and so will need the car for our once a week shopping.
Common sense is telling me that we should be able to apply for a month or 2 month MOT extension direct from D&VSA - but....
