Boris's address

Yes and hopefully those attitudes will change now that people must stay at home if they can. Employers that are holding off letting their workers stay at home will need to get on-board fast. This is probably going to be an 8-12 week slog (at least 3 weeks) so the sooner they start the quicker they will all adapt and work productively from home if they can.spiritus said:The PM's address still leaves many loopholes sadly.
For example, my wife can easily work remotely from home but when she requested this a week ago the boss was NOT happy with her request.
I think there must be many other employees in the same situation
I've worked from home for 5 days now and I can tell at the end of 4 days last week we had adjusted a huge amount as a team.

Employers will stay open until forced, at the end of the day to them money is king, above all things.
Like people have said, it should be essential "key workers", Medical, logistic & Food staff, other than that everyone should be under these restrictions.
I feel for you and your mother, people should not be forced into work, and their jobs should be protected. Boris is still sending a confusing message. Don't go out, but some people go to work but others don't, with no specifics really.Chilli6 said:I'm glad he's finally gone this far but agree with some others, he should have said keyworkers to travel to work only. My mums work are telling her to still go in but her job is not essential and if they were more proactive they could probably get her set up at home.
Employers will still request people in. As we already saw, the whether spoons boss believed Covid19 hadn't been spread in bars?!? And so he would have stayed open if he hadn't have been forced to shut!0 -
The problem now will be as soon as these limits are pulled back, you can expect a huge influx of people pouring back out into the wider world, then cases might spike again.7Phil said:

This restriction could be in for a while now. I hope he decides to go further as I have said in my other posts.0 -
Yes, that is a possibility. If it proves to be true we will have major restrictions until we can solve that problem too.badsim339 said:

I have a slight feeling that they may eventually start to open up society for people that they know will survive the illness with the "mild symptoms" but keep them separated from older and vulnerable people for a much longer period. Then at some stage enough healthy people could build up a natural immunity and the virus spread slows and dies off.
What I am really hoping for is that this virus (SARS-2) goes out the way like the first SARS did and eventually mutates away into a mild version of the cold. That's our best hope but not sure how likely that is. Think everyone is waiting to find out.0 -
Agree with you but it doesn't solve this problem. Employers "should" change their attitudes if they haven't already done so but the reality is many won't.7Phil said:

It leaves many workers faced with the prospect of either facing down their employer and insisting they are going to work from home OR face being sacked and I'm not sure who employment law would protect them in that case

Does anyone recall how long it is before they estimate the tests will be available that can tell whether you have not just got it right now but have had it in the past and now have antibodies? I'm guessing that, once enough people have had that test-to-be and reported as having the antibodies that those people will be able to resume "life as normal" and gradually more and more people will be able to do so (logically they'd have a card of some description saying that they are "clean" so to say). Like most people I have no idea whether I've got it or had it, but I would imagine that either I have the antibodies now or am likely to have them in a couple of months time. I'd certainly like to take a test to check in a couple of months to see whether I have the all-clear and I would think a lot of other people want to take that test too, so that they can resume "normal life" if possible.
I'm guessing they might keep up the lockdown until such time as a noticeable number of us can have an "I'm clean" card?

I don’t think referring to it as clean would be a good idea!MoneySeeker1 said:Does anyone recall how long it is before they estimate the tests will be available that can tell whether you have not just got it right now but have had it in the past and now have antibodies?
