O/S Daily Monday 23 March 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light - cold and frosty start to the day again.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm bathed, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, carrots, cauli in cheese sauce, peas, yorkshires and gravy. Tonight possibly we'll have fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.
I'm into work today - we'll see what happening as the day unfolds.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another cold and frosty start but the sun is shining and forecast to remain so.
Every day the news gets worse and I dread hearing the updates. They say the numbers of those infected in Yorkshire is set to escalate in the next 48 hours. It's hardly surprising to hear that when you see the footage of all the thoughtless people around. Photos from Whitby, Scarborough and Bridlington yesterday made it look as though it was a bank holiday with the crowds thronging the promenades, beaches and towns. But the south coast didn't appear any better. The country iseems full of mindless people. I'll shut up now!
I am supposed to be starting the promised one room a day Spring clean today but whether it happens remains to be seen. I might start on the easiest room first!! I topped up my Mrs Heinz (soup) drawer in the freezer yesterday as lunch stocks were dwindling. I made a big pan of lentil and bacon. I was almost out of lentils last week so asked DD to keep her eyes peeled whilst out and about. The only packs she could find were in the Asian sm where she'd gone whilst searching for chickpeas - a big catering pack!! We halved the contents but even so I think I will be making a lot of lentil soup for the foreseeable!
I hope you all have a decent day under the circumstances and are keeping safe and well. REDRUBY I hope you enjoyed your "afternoon down the pub" yesterday! ((GROUP HUG)) as usual and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"17 -
Morning folks.Today I'll be mostly staying in. Perhaps I'll do a turn round the block if the rain stays away. I think we can manage with food stocks though I'm hoping that we don't have to delve into DM's stocks as most are fairly elderly!
The builder is due to finish off the beading round the floor and do some wood-filling where lumps have been hacked out.I suspect my plans for the kitchen will be put on hold until after the crisis is over. Well...it's not urgent even if I'm longing for it to be done. The hordes were out in the Loch Lomond / Luss / Arrochar areas too. Further north loads of camper vans have turned up at various car parks and lay-bys. Now the Scottish government have 'closed' ferrys down for non-islanders unless bringing in essential supplies. All ferry bookings are closed down too. Two islands have locked themselves down too. These remote areas haven't got the infrastructure to support huge numbers of potentially ill people. On the good side it's so heart-warming to read and see such lovely acts of kindness and caring. Perhaps these tough times will change society for the better. Now, my thoughts are with our poorlies and the sad. Things will get better.Happy Monday to everyone.17 -
Morning
Well haven't we just shown ourselves again this weekend as a moronic nation who have a strange sense of entitlement. Quite apart from the idiots congregating in our tourist areas like it was a bank holiday the people heading to their holiday homes for family get togethers and the completely senseless ones who think its fine to allow their mothers to have people visiting from outside despite their age and vunerability......but its mothers day!!! Next stage needed Boris Rant over
Back to ground hog day today cleaning, exercising and hopefully getting an hour of sun. Nothing much else going on but that's life for most of us now. My highlight of the day will be liver and onions with a big pile of mash. Luckily I am one of the odd ones who loves it and if the shops stay the same I will be eating it lots
Enjoy your own groundhog day everyone as much as you can15 -
Good morning, a beautiful sunny day and I'll be pegging washing out soon.
Gers your mum's bay window and floor look lovely.
I am going to get some work done this morning and then cut the grass this afternoon. I haven't left the house and garden for 10 days but we are together and all well so far, though my hay fever has started early, sore, itchy eyes. Hardly an issue, given what other people are experiencing. I understand from social media that locally, a lot of people are still congregating in parks so although I'd like a walk, I'll stay here.
Hope everyone is able to keep safe and that you all have a tolerable day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Good morning everyone and what a beautiful sunny morning we have here. I had a pretty good night's sleep and have woken up feeling a lot more optimistic. I am going to take this opportunity of being home to have a proper sort out of all my stuff and have a good clean and tidy too. The kids are going to help too even though they don't know that yet...evil chuckle.
Jemima is very poorly at the moment so she is shutting herself away for the requisite 2 weeks and our grandchildren are also not well so they are being quarantined at their dad's house for the next couple of weeks as well. I will miss them all loads but better to be safe than sorry. Lilly is also away for the duration so it is very quiet at home.
I have a shopping delivery arriving this morning and goodness knows what will actually turn up. When I checked last night most of my items were out of stock so I will be interested to see if they will offer substitutes or whether we will just have what little is available. I am very grateful to the delivery drivers as well as the supermarket staff though that they are even attempting to provide some shopping.
My knitting is still going well, I have ordered some more wool, stuffing and eyes to keep me going through the Spring and Summer. I also have loads of cross stitch kits to do if I fancy a change as well as all my card making stuff. I am going to make a load of 'Thinking of You' cards to post out to my friends and family over the coming weeks. My sister delivered one to me and a bunch of daffs and it really cheered me up.
Right, I am going to make a start and clean and clear my desk as it is rather cluttered and dusty. I hope you all manage to have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Good morning, fine again here.I managed to post yesterday just before our internet went off for some reason, it wasn't off for long though. We managed to get out fo a walk yesterday in our local park, there were plenty of people around, but there was enough room to keep away from everyone. The rest of the day was just the usual jobs,We seem to be having more contact than usual with friends and family, I know I said this yesterday, but thank heavens for tech!!Nanny, that exploding head thing, it happens to me!! Sometimes a bang, or or occasionally a voice, which can be alarming ., just a short sound of a voice, not saying anything identifiable, just a sound.Anyway, hope everyone is all right - take care folksHope everyone is still ok anyway17

Morning All
I have the bump in the night thing too, or do I?! Perhaps sometimes there are bangs and bumps and sometimes it's just a dream!
How was the pub RR?
I would offer to help with the cleaning Gers but sadly we can't mingle! Glad it's all going well.
Lovely to hear you are in good spirits dumpling.
One of the hub schools is open this morning and looking for staff, I offered but am not needed, will wait to see what's happening tomorrow. I'm taking this opportunity to do some cleaning and lots of washing whilst the weather is good. Not sure if I should go to the allotment or not, any advice?
Stay safe and well, take care. XX15 -
Morning all, and how's your pandemic going?
Life seems very strange here although I guess we will get used to it. We don't seem to have a problem at the moment with people regarding it as a holiday and crowding the beaches, but of course, they have to cross the water first and the ferry companies are a bit iffy about timings and do things like closing the passenger lounges so that everyone has to stay in their cars. We will see. What we are expecting soon are people anxious to get out of London. We have a lot of DFLs (Down From Londoners) who have holiday homes here, and we think that they will probably return in force.
However, life must go on. I've been inspired by TA taking one room at a time to sort out, and thought that I might follow her example. Hence I duly looked into my Room of Doom this morning, shut the door hastily and am now drinking coffee and planning my attack. It's a toss up between Fly Lady method and Kondo method, but I really fancy the Handgrenade method. We will see.
Foodwise, I have some salad stuff that I need to use up, so it will be a big salad with something. I have plenty of cheese so may be a cheesy jacket potato. I must also make a cake to use up some OOD eggs that are knocking around. I have a bachelor friend, (not THAT sort of bachelor friend, do scrub your minds) whose idea of cooking is interesting, to say the least, and he is always pathetically grateful for anything I might throw his way, so it will save me from adding even more inches to my waist if I pass on the cake to him, less the quality control slice of course.
Dumpling, enjoy your quiet house.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY especially for those who have to go out and mingle.
An apple a day keeps anyone away if it's thrown hard enough.I believe that friends are quiet angels

SR and Nanny, my version of that is someone calling my name - usually my mum who has been dead for 5 years now. It always wakes me with a start and is very unsettling.
Gers, we were due to go to Barra at Easter but cancelled a week ago, a big part of the decision was putting myself in the shoes of the islanders seeing possibly infected people coming off the ferry.
We have tightened our isolation after finally getting clarity on Steve's status. We knew he would be high risk but it seems he is in the very highest category having a blood cancer and undergoing immunotherapy. He's not been shopping or socialised for a couple of weeks and it says that I can go out but to stay in separate rooms and have our own bathrooms and use the kitchen at different times.. We don't think that's very practical so I'm not going shopping or anything for the forseeable. Chris will bring us groceries occasionally because he can drive this way from work - it's a bit of a detour but not too bad. I will really miss seeing Laura and Esben but needs must. They are staying in Yorkshire, where they were before things really kicked off. They'd had the break planned for months so they have just decided to stay on and not return to North London.which I am pleased about.
Stay well everyone.13 -
Morning all! Well, don't worry about just UK people being stupid, Italians and Spanish are the same, they all buggered off to their holiday homes in the south or went south and spread it with them. It isn't solely a british affliction, it's a stupid people affliction. Let's take my next door neighoburs in their early eighties for example - stay in, self isolate? Not on your Nelly!! We want to see our three chldren and nine grandchildren every single day please, including the ones that don't pop round that often. Surely they won't be infected with this nasty thing because they wash their hands regularly! ...We, on this thread, it seems, are not in that category, so hooray!! Rant over....Today is anther beautiful day weather wise, lovely isn't it Nels? I dried clothes on the line eysetrday, first time since last October I think...I also had to rethink the blocks of wood, the second lot fell off too so I've made a nice complicated system of old copper wiring holding up a nice large piece of wood that will have the guttering screwed to, which of course makes it easier to remove when the garage is gone in the future sometime...The front net curtains are going to have to be shortened and altered too soon. Theyve still got the cat claw holes in them that are being hidden down the joins of one pane to another by pegs...Classy, me....They're quite subtle really, no one can see through them on the outside but I can see through them on the inside. I don't think we opened the inner curtains for a year a few years ago, and a lady over the road came round to apologise for taking bits of rosemary off the bush, because she thought I'd seen her do it...Hadn't seen a thing. Didn't tell her that though......I have also told OH he must step up more that I am fed up of doing all the thinking regarding food, what we have and what I can make. We are both going to be here full time for a while so I'm not playing Mrs Hotel Manager any more.Love your hand grenade method Monna...I heartily laughed at that and might have to emulate it. Hope you're all OK despite banging heads of both kinds, and enjoying your days in the virtual although not virtual pub
Hey all reading along..Stay safe in there...Militant Monday.....
