The Book People

When we ordered books from The Book People site 3 weeks ago the home page said that deliveries were between 4 + 10 days if my memory serves me. Last week when I had not received my order I checked the site which then said that deliveries would be within 4 weeks. Looking at it today they now say 'within 7 weeks'. As the firm is closing down is it actually safe to order anything as the delivery time just keeps getting longer? Either they have the stock or they don't.

Online ordering from any firm which claims a "Closing Down Sale" is a risk. What was the value of your order and how did you pay?
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

This article would have put me off (17/12/2019):
Book retailer The Book People has filed for administration with just one week to go before Christmas.
The business will continue to trade and there are no plans to make any of the 393 employees redundant, PwC said.

    and this (10/1/2020):

More than 150 jobs have been lost at online book retailer The Book People after it went into administration in December.

Administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) were appointed on 16 December, but a new buyer has not been found and 155 people have been made redundant.

The company will continue to trade online and PwC said it intends to fulfil and deliver all orders.

Have you actually spoken to The Book People about the sliding delivery times and your order specifically?

You're not thinking about ordering something else...

I always liked the book people. I didn’t realise they had gone, that’s a shame.

Hi just sent this and hope someone may advise. I have been a customer of the book people for years and 7 weeks ago before the lockdown I placed and order for a few items. I was expecting a little delay when it said up to 3 weeks but now 7 weeks on, no parcel, no contact to emails and now we can no longer access our accounts. Can anyone advise any consumer rights?

They've gone bust and I would have thought this COVID situation has meant they have no staff working.  I would suspect this order may never arrive.  You don't really have many consumer rights as the company has gone bust so maybe try a chargeback with your bank

I placed an order on March 2nd. No books have been dispatched and no replies received.
Is 2 months long enough and can I reclaim the money against my credit card which was used for the payment?

I had several orders that took much longer than expected to arrive, when I spoke with CS (on the phone), it seemed like they had hardly any staff left to do the picking/sending etc because a) they were in administration and b) Covid 19..
If you ring then should be able to tell you whereabouts roughly in the queue you are for orders (the last time I rang it was something like thats going to be about another 10 days, and it was!).
