It doesn't depend on the supplier but on the tariff...

If you're on a fixed tariff with an exit fee, you will be charged that exit fee by the supplier regardless if the switch is internal or external.

One of the main reason that the exit fee is on a fixed tariff is because companies tend to buy the power for the whole contract period upfront - therefore if you switch out of that tariff, they'd need to sell it back (the new tariff you're on would have different power set next to it)
As above UnclaimedEnergy. We don't apply exit fees when customers switch from one of our tariffs to another.

Can't speak for other energy companies though.

Just something to be aware of with EON - Whilst it is true they do not charge exit fees for internal tariff switches, all their recent most competitive tariffs have stated 'not available to existing EON customers' in the T&Cs. Which seems slightly disingenuous; they won't charge you an exit fee, but simply won't allow a switch to any faintly competitive tariff.

Their policy is therefore not the equal of the other suppliers mentioned in this thread.
  • Hi
Does anyone know if Shell Energy impose early exit fees if you switch to there variable tariff?
    Thanks
