Aw, you say the nicest things!

Best wishes to you though. I hope you get the resolution you want.0 -
On that reasoning as you have never had your salary you would be happy for your employer to wait 12 months or more before he pays you? I don’t think so, surely? It’s your money not theirs. If they have cash flow issues that is not your problem, it is theirs.Aylesbury_Duck said:
Looking at it from another point of view, if your trip went ahead you'd never have that £500. Now you're being offered it in 12 months' time.jo1326 said:Hi I’m in exactly the same situation with flights booked May 1st. KLM have cancelled and offered a voucher. I’ve no intention of flying in 12 months and they told me if I don’t use it with in the 12 months I can claim a refund then. I said that they are basically making me wait 12 months for a cash refund and they replied “yes that’s correct”. It’s £500 I can’t wait a year for that amount.
It's difficult for everyone at the moment, but at least you'll get your money back eventually. Lots have lost much more. It's not as if it would have earned any interest with rates as they are, either!0 -
That's not a particularly good analogy. Salary is regular income, holiday costs are expenditure and are extraordinary and most importantly, discretionary.
The point being that if you choose to spend £500 on a holiday, that £500 is lost forever if the holiday goes ahead, but should come back to you if the holiday is cancelled.
I'm not defending their policy but I can understand it.0 -
Back to the original topic rather then the bickering. Anyone had any joy with KLM. I spoken to them twice and only giving a voucher. Spoke to Sainsbury’s credit card , they said wouldn’t be sure a claim would be successful and to try insurance company. Emailed insurance company but got an email back saying could take 4-6 weeks.
We are planning to travel again in April 2021 which would mean booking flights in May so could use voucher I suppose but don’t really want to be tied down to using KLM again.0 -
I booked my flights to Norway. Outgoing through Loganair to Bergen and return flight with KLM from Oslo. I booked both flights through Expedia and KLM have just contacted me through email to say my flight has been cancelled and I can accept a travel voucher like previous posts. I do have insurance through AIG but I am wondering what is the best option for myself? There is no use for the voucher for myself as I was travelling here for a one off trip to take part in an event thats been cancelled. Any help or experiences very much appreciated!0

You need to speak to Expedia. That's who you have the contract with. Technically you can't ask KLM for anything because you're not their customer. Not in a contractual sense.andrewgrant92 said:I booked my flights to Norway. Outgoing through Loganair to Bergen and return flight with KLM from Oslo. I requested a refund on 10 March, via their online form, when it became obvious that we wouldn't be travelling. They later cancelled our flight so I felt confident we would receive our refund. However, after many phone calls and emails to them, I finally received a reply yesterday stating that our refund request had been rejected because it either didn't fit their criteria or the form I submitted was non-refundable....??? I have requested clarification on what that means. They are basically stalling for as long as possible and I don't think they should be able to get away with it. I do understand that companies are struggling, my own is too and that is why I need my funds back. Every other aspect of our trip has been refunded, in full, with no quibbles, its just the airlines that are playing hardball.0

I had flights to Japan booked (on July 2019) for April 2020 and like everyone here, was offered a voucher with no option of a refund. The flight was then cancelled and they are refusing the refund. I have contacted them repeatedly to tell them that we are entitled by law for the money back if we ask for it. One customer service agent I spoke to said they could raise a complaint for me but it would be likely I would only get the refund of taxes back to which I laughed and declined. They keep saying that 'we [Air France/KLM] believe that the issuance of a refundable voucher is a reasonable balance between the protection of passengers’ rights and the operational realities that airlines have to face because of these exceptional circumstances' . A phrase that has been echoed word for word byThe voucher is valid for 12 months then a refund can be issued which to be fair to them is a better option than other airlines. Regardless I have responded and said that it doesn't matter what they 'believe', they are refusing us our right by law. After that they gave me a form to fill in so will see what happens.

I have flights booked to Amsterdam on June 12th. Tried to cancel but instead they have booked us an alternative flight (for a week later) and offered the voucher option to use within 12 months. No intention of travelling so any advice on best approach would be appreciated. Surely there must be another option other than taking the voucher?0
