What can I do with a cheque made out to my deceased mother

Hi, I’m new to this forum and need some advice. My mother passed away over 4yrs ago and my auntie was the executor of her estate which was split evenly between my brother and I. We had a Executors account set up with NatWest for all cheques and monies to be accumulated before my auntie divided the total between us and the estate was settled. Recently a cheque arrived from Lloyd’s bank in my mother’s name and I don’t know what I do with it. I no longer have contact with my auntie and I don’t think I can set up another executor account as she is listed in the will as executor, what do I do?

Do you have a copy of the will ? I think in your shoes my first step would be to contact LLoyds, show them the will, explain the situation and ask if the cheque can be re-issued as two cheques, one for you and one for your brother as joint beneficiaries

I do have a copy of the will and death certificate that I have previously taken into Lloyd’s but they said they can only change the name on the cheque to “the executor of.......” which doesn’t help me?0

How has the payment arisen four years after your mother's death?

It seems strange that a cheque just arrived out of the blue - banks don't just close accounts without authority. Is the cheque for a closed account - if so who asked them to close the account/0

We applied posthumously for PPI and they admitted fault and sent a cheque.0

You explained that your mother had died and administration of her estate completed four years ago?

Legally the aunt is the only person who can deal with this.0
