O/S Daily Friday 20 March 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, dry underfoot but cloudy and overcast.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, and I'm bathed, dressed and enjoying a cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was spatchcock piri piri chicken and vegetable rice. Tonight will be something quick and easy with chips.
Yesterday I managed to get done what I wanted, also managed to find eggs - which whilst we still had some I do use a lot of eggs, the SM seem to be out of stock of many lines and even first thing when they open and they've been restocked, the stock is just not coming in.
I'll be heading to the SM this morning to see what I can get off my list - there's not much on it as I've been picking bits up here and there when I've seen it.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all DS dropped off at the station for 5 and DH and DD2 have now left for the station and work . DD2 has now had her wedding scaled down to 5 people at the registry office so i will wait outside as its only them and the 2 witnesses so DH and SIL's mum I am going to call the wedding dress shop today to see if they have boxes and tissue paper as the dress will be packed away and next year DD2 will go all out with a church blessing and party sad but she is getting married so that is all that really matters I feel for all those couples who after meticulous planning are having to change their plans . DD2 is on discharge duty on her ward today but maybe moved to other work as its one of the london hospitals so we may have to isolate in the next few days my lovely mum is now self isolating i have arranged tesco deliveries for the next 3 weeks for her but she is worried. I must admit to having a little cry over all of this yesterday but this morning i pulled my knicker elastic up and realised its just a blip and we will get through this and better days are coming.
Right as i have an empty house floors will be washed and i will revel in the peace I cant touch the conservatory as DD2 went to Ikea yesterday to add to the growing mountain in there . Dinner tonight sausage n mash
Nels Glad your mum is doing ok and your footy sounds like its coming on a treat you will soon be the go to for the local kids when they want a kick about
Ruby thinking of you as always
I know there are lots of you with worries so i am sending virtual hugs and extra strength to everyone xxSlava Ukraini15 -
Morning All
Lovely and bright this morning but there is a frost, maybe spring is here at last!
I had a lovely evening with friends, luckily the friend's house we were in is huge so we could sit well apart but a good chat and a few glasses of wine was just the ticket. We are all in the Education sector so lots to talk about.
Last day of school today, ours is going to be a 'hub' school so will be open for breakfast and lunch clubs and the children of those on the front line but I don't know if I will still be working there or going elsewhere, perhaps we will find out today.
Hope you're all staying safe, take care. XX16 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC - you are busy as usual. It's fine and dry here, frosty though. Yesterday was the same, fine but cold.Another quiet day ahead here, We should really get out in the garden to tidy up, and I would like to scrub the path, it's a bit green. I've got a birthday card to finish off, and more to start, so that is something to keep me occupied. DH is always diddling around with his computers, and is finding jobs to do that have been put off for various reasons.Sorry to hear you've been in a bit of a state Nanny about everything - it can happen all too easily. I've stopped listening obsessively to every news bulletin, but we watch the late national news at 10pm. I have the radio on all day, and I was hovering over it at every hour when there was news, but I've stopped that, I was getting into a state as well. I advised DD to do the same, as she was becoming very anxious, It's not head in the sand, it's just trying to preserve our sanity! We can catch up on the internet anyway, any time we want, I know the situation is extremely serious, but we have to get through some how.On the other side of the coin, I rang an elderly friend last night to see if she was ok, she lives alone, and she wasn't bothered at all about the virus, she's going out, using public transport etc. Her only gripe was that she couldn't get any bread. She has major health issues as well.Glad your workmen have gone Gers, and everything is back to normal, you get tired of living in a mess.Nels, hope you are ok, your physio treatment sounds quite hilarious!DP!, hope your Dgd's op goes ahead/Anyway I'll stop chuntering on and hope evryone has a good day.Take care folks16

Good morning folks.Another Friday, the month is whizzing past so fast, it's scary.Yesterday the plasterer failed to appear so is promised for today. Meanwhile, the builder and his apprentice cleared the room of all the 'stuff' and then began work to reinstate the laminate. So far, so good. I'm hoping he'll finish it today. All being well we can then move onto sorting out the hall floorboards. The other day my cleaner told me about wet patches in my home so I arranged for someone to have a look. Turns out to not be a leak as such, just seep from the extraordinary amount of rain. The place is very old (1790s) stone built so has its own idiosyncratic tendencies, plus it's been empty. He went into the loft and also inspected the barn and is confident about no leak. Happily, he'll call in now and then to check on it.Yesterday we received a piece of shocking news that a young family member in Germany took her own life earlier this month. There's no obvious reason to be found, so very sad. Although the relationship was not close (her grandfather was first cousin to my mother) she was in touch with my mother irregularly over the years. It's a real knock to the family. The sun is shining brightly and seems to urge me out of bed! Normally I go to Marks for the Saturday cakes, let's hope I can still do that.My thoughts are with the sad and the poorlies. Happy Friday to everyone.15

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting us off. A glorious morning but blooming 'eck it's cold! It looks as if we have sunny days ahead too.
Day 5 of solitary for me and I am getting used to it now I think! Not only am I talking to Sparkle and the four walls, I am now talking to myself! I'll get worried when I start answering myself! As every day is now the same, the Friday Tidy has been abandoned and I am going to copy CSARINA and do a room a day. And if I CBA one day does it matter, as no-one is allowed over the threshold to see it anyway! It's quite possible I could end up living like Miss Havisham!
I was surprised to get a phone call from DD yesterday about 5.00 to ask if I wanted any fruit!! She was in Aldi hopeful of finding some scraps and there was quite a bit of fruit and veg available! Their rationing plan must be working, unless the panic buying has eased off. I just needed bananas and pointed red peppers and she got me both! My lucky day! Like nearly everyone else she is sick to death of trailing from sm to sm trying to find fresh stuff to feed the girls.
From what I can gather from my secluded nest this situation is bringing out the best in some people and, sadly, the worst in others. Some of the stories have had me in tears. Like the poor young mum who was desperately going shop to shop trying to find formula to feed her baby. I hope the mothers with their cupboards groaning with the stuff felt ashamed of themselves.
Have as good a day as you can folks and ((HUGS)) all round. BELLA I wondered how DD's wedding would pan out after seeing on the news how others were either having to cancel or scale back their plans. She'll be married and that's the main thing. And then a big party next year to look forward to. Are we all invited? REDRUBY thinking of you as always. GERS it sounds as though you are nearing the end of the upheaval. Take care one and all and stay as safe as you can x

Morning
Bit chilli here but bright sunshine and blue skies we all so deserve some sunlight at the moment and barring the screaming trampolining kids I have as neighbours I hope to be enjoying some peaceful garden time....maybe Ill blast the tunes out to drown their constant whining. Physio came yesterday but we didn't do much as my leg was not playing ball unfortunately. He is back again on Monday so will be having a stern word with my uncooperative body. I was due to start at the gym next week but that's been cancelled. I'm surprised ...although very grateful ...he is continuing home visits instead for now. Lots of love and respect to all NHS workers its just a damm shame they can't get any supermarket food after long shifts the country needs to hang its head.
Yesterday I made an expansive Master To Do list with a variety of things on it from fun stuff to cleaning stuff to books to read on line yoga and things I want to learn. The plan is to have a Daily To Do list and as well as as the usual have to dos will pick one thing to tackle on the Master. Feel better for a plan.
So today its windows cleaning in the lounge and boy do they need it also plan on a starting a new book in the garden hopefully.
Food wise its chilli and tortilla for dinner
Nanny you are not alone ....you could call your bff..me... anytime xx
Bella at least they will be married then lots of time to plan all the parties
Keep smiling crew16 -
Bella, I'm sorry they had to cancel the big celebration but as TA said at least they'll be married and will have a story to tell their grandchildren.
TA we spoke to Chris on his way home yesterday - he's exhausted, the panic buying in London has been especially bad and he had stories of people destroying the stores because they were angry about the lack of stock. I'm really worried about his vulnerability to the virus because he's so tired.
We're going home today for a couple of days to get more stuff so that we can hole up here for as long as we can. Before that we'll have a last walk in the beautiful sunshine.13 -
Morning all
Dry here but very cold with a bitter wind, I have a towel load on the go so will hang it out for a while. I attemped to go shopping yesterday I have never seen anything like it !! we got to the shops at nine and the shelves were empty !! No mince, chicken , chops or hardly any meat at all, no eggs bacon sausages no pasta, tinned goods dried foods or much veg !! I managed to get two smallish joints of pork and a small gammon, some quiches, we went in three shops in the end and I think I have just about cobbled together two weeks worth of food although there may be some strange combinations !! The shop staff were amazing though and smiling through it, the cashier in aldi told me they had a meat delivery that morning and as they were putting it out it was being grabbed, the whole delivery was gone in 20 mins !! I will have to try and get some eggs from somewhere but other than that I think we will manage.
Need to phone the Dr this morning and get my sick note extended work have been fab supporting me so far and I really appreciate it.
Bella I am so sorry that you wont see dd get marriedI am just hoping that they let you sneak into the back or peep into the door on the day), it will be heartbreaking for you to miss it, big hugs my lovely xxxx
Nels you are doing amazingly well and I love that you are making lists !! xx
Have good days all and stay safe xx16 -
Snoozer im also worried about my DD as she has to deep clean all the boxes coming back from isolating customers and has to pick so many items as the country has gone mad with online orders. She worked 72 hours last week and broke the European Work Directive.
Im also very anxious regarding this pandemic im in at risk category as is mum and DH although he os working at home so a bit happier. Sorry doom and gloom xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.13 -
Good morning everyone, no sun here, it is cold and overcast. I think the weather is warming a bit though, my hands are quite a lot less painful. We are forecast some days of sun so I'm saving the washing for that, I've had enough of washing draped on clotheshorses.
Had a bit of a down day yesterday, I had earache and a lumpy-feeling throat. Despite a poor night, I feel much better today. Another piece of work to do, and I'm another who is abandoning the Friday Tidy in favour of a room a day.
Nelski, am impressed by your mum!
Bella, I am sure that a later blessing will be beautiful.
Everyone, am sending lots of positive thoughts.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13
