Goodwill credit on halifax credit card statement

I have a closed halifax credit card account that I’ve been paying off for some time now. I’ve been paying sufficient to keep the account out of the definition of “persistent debt” And today I’ve  received a letter saying that they’ve reduced my interest rate to 0% and credited £600 to my account as a good Will gesture. Seems too good to be true, could there be a catch?

In today's circumstances a phone call is not a good idea IMO.
Do you still get monthly statements? or can you log in to Internet banking to see the transactions?

It is not unheard of that they may have overcharged you in the past and this is remediation.
  • Whilst it strikes me as Halifax being one of the fairer ones in all of this  <3
Perhaps because of the crackpot and smelly idea that is "paydown plan" it is always going to be open and up for tweaking as time goes on as one of my biggest concerns.
Quite interested and sinister to read this when I was looking more into the subject only today

What if I’ve received a ‘persistent debt’ letter?

If you have a persistent debt that your credit provider's asked you to increase your payments on, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has relaxed these rules for the time being.

The deadline for customers to respond to persistent debt letters has been extended until 1 October 2020. They've also been given more time to increase payments on any persistent debt.

I've certainly used it when it's come to round 2 of my complaint to my credit card company - it doesn't feel very fair at all.

Mind I've also been allowed a BT card now too.
