O/S Daily Tuesday 17 March 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 still in his pit - enjoying a lie-in before being back at work tomorrow, I'm bathed, dressed and enjoying a cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.
Light dry underfoot, yesterday was a murky start but got out to be a lovely spring day - not sure what we may get today - but it's forecast to be cooler at the end of the week.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans and I had baked fish topped with some LO mash and I had a ready made sauce I found in the back of a cupboard - so a sort of fish pie with veg - very nice. Slow cooker is on and heating - tonight we'll be having beef stew, dumplings, mash and veg.
Work yesterday was either busy or dead - people are definitely not going out very much. Working from the other office today, so that will make a change.
Keep safe and well x

Morning
Well this all ramps up another few levels. My goal to be up and operating relatively normally bar a wonky walk by the end of March seems very unrealistic now. No word from the company I do training for the 7th April to be postponed yet but its safe to assume it will be. Anyone got any good recipes for fresh air cos that's what Ill be living off! No sign of the terrorist yesterday either so I guess thats finished too....a phone call would have been appreciated. Tin hats and stiff upper lips all round ladies
Anyways....hoping for some sun today to get out in the garden wont be able to much in there I can do bar boost my vit D so bring on a heatwave.
Food tonight will be a pasty and beans then nothing else planned. Its time for me to accept it is what it is and eek some fun out of it.
I hope everyone else in our group is safe and well ....strange old times15 -
Morning folks.Nothing too exciting planned for today apart from collecting DM's scripts and getting them filled. The builders will be working mostly downstairs today so it'll be peaceful here too. The pics I posted yesterday show the completed repair work, just the clearing up to do.I hope that everyone has a peaceful day avoiding the more lurid press articles!Happy Tuesday to all.14

Good morning, and thanks NMLC for starting. Fine and dry here for now, anyway,Strange old times indeed Nels. The terrorist gang should have let you know they aren't coming, not very good is it. You were saying yesterday that your Mum has the TV blasting and won't/can't use subtitles - my DH uses wireless headphones and I was going to suggest those for her, but she might not use them either !!I was thinking Tai Chi probably won't be on for the foreseeable, and our Tuesday evening quiz will go down the Swanee, it's funny how lost you feel when the routine thigs you've done for years are suddenly not there. We'll have Dgs as usual today, but I'm wondering about the wisdom of that - I don't know, he's a toddler and doesn't get out in the world much, but his sister does, she goes to school. DD says school are making the children wash their hands a lot, but you just don't know..I had a horrible dream early this morning about not being able to find DH anywhere, I was glad to wake up.Anyway, we'll see what today brings.Thinking of the sad and poorly people. take care folks12

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. After yesterday's pleasant day we have had rain overnight but it's not forecast to last and temps will be almost tropical - up to 14 deg!
I have now just about got my head round the idea of self isolation. I might be talking to the walls by the end of it (whenever that might be) but it's the only sensible thing to do for me - 74 with underlying health problems. The hospitals are going to be busy enough with stubborn old folk not heeding advice and I don't want to be one of them if I can help it. I was disgusted at some of the flippant replies an interviewer got from quite a lot of oldies yesterday, saying they will continue going out as normal or they would die of boredom. That's better than dying of this silent killer among us. I shall miss my DGDs like crazy but I want to be around for them a while longer yet. And come better weather maybe we can sit in the garden (at least 2 metres apart!) and have a chat!
So it's no Tuesday meet up for me and my oldest buddy for the foreseeable. She is in good health herself but her DH has health worries so she has him to consider too.. I should have been going to see Matthew Bourne's The Red Shoes on Saturday at the Alhambra but I've told DD I won't be going and putting myself at risk amongst 1400 other people. (She texted me later to say the theatre are in discussions as to whether to cancel it's run and will have a decision today.)
I'm lucky in that I have DS and DD near at hand to keep me stocked up with things I will run out of. They can leave the bags on the front step and run!
So now I have no excuses for postponing neglected jobs and decluttering!! And the garden might get tidied if I do a bit at a time when weather permits. And I tell myself how lucky I am that I didn't get rid of that stockpile of books! And luckier still that I adopted my lovely little Sparkle when I did so I do at least have her to keep me company bless her!
Have a good day folks if you can in these difficult times and ((HUGS)) for everybody 'cos I think we are going to need them. xx

Hello everyone
Well, even I am finding it difficult to be upbeat today. We are in a good position ourselves, over 70 with some health problems but well managed, and lovely family and friends, but my heart aches for others. For the time being, we are trying to carry on . Supermarket today, usually followed by a coffee somewhere. We'll see.
Went to yoga yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it, but had a message today to say it is cancelled until further notice.
Right, get a grip ,Cas! This too will pass
Sending good thoughts to all those who need them - and I think that will be many of us.
Happy Tuesday - wherever possible x

Late night for me as mums next door neighbour was burgled last night smashed the front door luckily the neighbour opposite (who was burgled 2 weeks ago) heard and came out only to confront one of them running out to a waiting car further down the road leaving a trail of money behind them. She called me to let me know mum heard them but thought it was the carers the lady is back in hospital she lives in the front room unfortunately they leave the curtains open and the lights on when no-one is there i have commented to mum on it before so from the street you can see there is no-one there they have no alarm or ring doorbell so not great . I have told mum to put her alarm on and double lock her doors whilst she is at home and have ordered her a ring security light for the back which DH will fit . Wedding saga rolls on TUI are still not cancelling the wedding and are still taking bookings for Italy at the same time as the wedding in mid April all be it at reduced prices so we cant move on to book more things here as yet .Mothers Day lunch at the local pub is cancelled .My hair is missing out on turning grey and will be white soon. Never mind as it just shows if we can get through this we can get through anything.
Ruby as always thinking of you
Gers the work is coming on well hopefully the flooring goes back down ok
Nels Your doing really well hope the terrorist comes today
I have to say for all the crap videos of people panic buying the kindness of people on FB has been overwhelming in local communities here with FB groups being set up to help those less able It's good to see communities come together in these difficult times
Right onwards n upwards quick tidy round and then washing day for me . Stay safe and have a good day xxSlava Ukraini13 -
Strange birthday here, although to be honest we've been taking steps to stay away from people for at least the last week. We have a lunch booking at a posh restaurant but have still to decide what to do. I feel very sorry for all the people who will lose their livelihoods over the next few weeks - scary times.
Chris is still having a very stressful time at work trying to make sure that essential supplies go out to stores, I worry about him being so tired which must leave him more vulnerable to infection.
Anyway, enough doom and gloom, I shall have a very happy birthday baby wrangling today. I put him to bed last night and he had a very unhappy half hour or so with his teeth before he finally slept and he woke us all at 6.30 this morning.14 -
Morning! Did quite a lot [for me] yesterday...Packed presents ready to clear downstairs table for incipient sewing project. Cleared lean to table thing and all pots are now sans massive hairy spiders that even though I shook them before I brought them in, were hiding in the recesses of the trays...One load of washing done, beginning to regret that. I washed a couple of silk kimono things, but obviously, they have been dry cleaned prior to that...what a stink! I unveiled the washing line to put them on and they've been on it all night, hopefully de-stinking. Papers were binned, burned or left ready to go into folders. Various things for various people have been bagged up ready and many cardboard boxes are in the boot of my car along with some small not working electrical things.Today I am going to start tackling rubbish upstairs to bin, charity or sell.Bella, same here, lots og groups being set up for individual areas where I live, the mutual aid thread is actually buzzing with people who now want to help when it had degenerated into 'I need' or 'I want'...nice to see. Sorry about your lack of work Nelski, and the terrorist not coming..Double disappointment whammy. Have you applied for everything you can apply for? Gers, looking good! Almost done! TA, yes, there are lots of things that we can do to not be bored...But, you could set up Skype to keep in touch, wich will probably be nice than a hurried wave from the car...Actually, I just thought, writing letters. It's been a while since that was done.....Not that I would do it, it's just a thought. Nanny, you'd be surprised! glad someone understands the gibberish
what's being in the army like? 3 square meals a day and all the potatoes you can peel? Hey all reading along, hope you're OK....Textbook Tuesday!

Bright and sunny here with a sharp frost, it turned into a beautiful day yesterday, I took the dog over the field and it was beautiful and warm.
Im not sure if I should be self isolating or not ! still 20 years off of 70 but do I have an underlying health issue ?? Im just not sure I am trying to as much as I can only went out with the dog yesterday and did not see a soul but things like shopping will still need doing and I have hospital appointments to attend so im a bit confused !. We have told my mum not to go out and that we will drop any shopping off to her. My sister has a small op booked for tomorrow but that has been cancelled as its non urgent apparently they are cancelling operations all over the place .
Onto today I am going to have some breakfast and then start cleaning the drawers in the kitchen I have mostly drawers only one cupboard as they are so much easier, but they need a good sort out, will walk pup later and then have a rest.
Spag bol or chilli for dinner will see what we feel like later.
Right better get on have good days all and stay safe xx13
