Paying other people back from credit card refund?

in Credit cards
hi folks, newbie here looking for expertise!
Husband booked & paid for golf holiday for him and 9 buddies. It was cancelled with Thomas Cook, then rebooked. Now it’s cancelled due to the current travel restrictions. Lucky in one sense, that he’s getting all the money back, but we’re now panicking about how we’re going to get the money back to his friends. It was c.£1000 each (so approx £9k coming back on our card that doesn’t belong to us). What’s the best way to ‘free’ it to real cash for his friends? We’re thinking:
1. Ask airline and hotel to issue rebate to bank acct not c/card, presume this won’t be possible (but would be simple to refund to pals)?
2. Take amount of cash out on card over period of days to have the cash to refund pals, but we’d pay interest on a cash withdrawal?
3. Pay off our balance (£4K) so when rebate comes in its showing as a positive balance, but would credit card refund us?
4. Somehow pay the individuals with a credit card?
Any brighter ideas? TIA smart people in my phone!!

Just to qualify, he already collected the cash from his pals and paid it all toward his credit card. And he now knows never to be the organiser ever again 😂0

When the refund comes back to the credit card, simply ask the card provider to pay the large credit balance back to his bank account and distribute it from there....1

If the refund creates a credit balance, ask the card provider to send you a cheque.
Hand out cash.1 -
So as there’s already our own ‘real’ debt of £4K, not all of the £9k will be showing as credit balance - it’ll only be £5k credit available to refund. If we transferred the £4K debt now to another card, would that help us get the full amount refunded do you think? sorry if I’m being thick. Cheers0

You're making it too complicated. Just ask for the money to be refunded, make up any difference from your own funds.0

Maybe I am mis-understanding this but it seems as though you have a 4K negative balance on your card and a 9k refund hitting the card
this will of course leave a 5K positive balance
you can ask for this 5K to be be sent to your bank account but of course you still need to find the other 4k to pay back your golfing friends
Apologies if I am misreading the situation0 -
thanks all. I was trying to find a way of getting the whole £9k back to us so we could refund his friends without us having to stump up £4K to pay off our own debt first. Which we won’t have straight away - it’ll take us 3months to find £4K 😢0

You would have to ask your card company if they would be prepared to pay you the 9K. As it is not something they would normally do. Explaining the situation may help.Life in the slow lane0

Presumbaly it will be a (approx) £10k refund - hubby + 9 @ £1k ea. So it's only £3k to find, not 4.0

As others say, the credit will be offset against any debt. You will probably have to take a cash advance or similar - alternatively, you could use the card to send a 'friends and family' payment to your friends own Paypal accounts. These are usually are of charge0
