Help!

I do hope someone can help me figure out what is what....
I'm in the last month of my contract with Plusnet - landline rental/phone calls/broadband (ends on the 27th this month) - the renewal quote was pants and there wasn't any budge on price.  I elected to move to NowTV (much better price plus discount from topcash so a very good saving).  All along I told NowTV please do not switch before the 28th - so I was a bit cross when I received an email, on the 14th this month, from Now telling me the switch date for landline was 24th I phoned NowTV saying that is too early - as potentially I will have cancellation charges from PlusNet.
Now TV tell me that because Openreach set the switch date (of which they say they have no control over) and it is within 10 days of go live they can't do anything.

PlusNet tell me as I'm switching before the 28th I will have cancellation charges.
Where do I stand with this - I pay for landline/broadband in advance is my understanding so how can I be charged cancellation charges?

Any help gratefully received!!!

So did NowTV ever agree to your request of the earliest switch date? If so then if you are still in the 14 day cooling off period ring NowTV and pull the plug on the switch. But if they have never agreed it looks like this is down to you so do your sums. Tell us what the cancellation fee will be and  how much you will be saving and then we can decide if its worth creating a fuss about.

You should always start the switching process less than 14 days before your current deal finishes as it takes at least 2 weeks and often you can't specify a change over date.  This way means you won't have to pay early termination charges.

Thank you cranford and wongataa for your replies.  I guess there is a phone recording of the telephone conversation with NowTV where the call operator agreed to set the activation date to after the 27th 'once they had been given the date'.  I have the cost of the early cancellation of the land line - just over £4; I await the cost of the broadband cancellation charge.  So it could be a case of chalk it up to experience and next time time start the switch within 14 days of end of contract, (thank you for that info, wongataa).
