I contacted Onetel and it was then that they told me I must cancel the BT 1571 service, which I duly did. I then contacted Ontel who told me it would take 10 working days when it took BT less than 2 hours to disconnect.

Hmmm, I asked if this was the case in an earlier post, because I read in another thread that someone was having trouble (it may even have been you) with their 1571 service after transferring to OneTel. I was told by someone else that it should make no difference - I could keep the BT 1571 service.

The BT 1571 still works with OneTel CPS, she is however switching back to TalkTalk, as the rest of the family is on TalkTalk and OneTel has 'crap customer services' in her words, which I can't argue with.
    Time will tell............:wall: :)

Yes, I noticed from OneTel's website that their 1571 basic service is more advanced than BT's. It would seem that you are able to leave a personalised message.

What about the 7 rings till the answer machine kicks in: are you able to alter that?

All the basic Onetel answering service allows you to do is add your name to the message.

Please just stick with the BT 1571 then you should be okay ;)

I couldnt get the 1571 to keep messages with Ontel. Thats why I stopped the service, for several weeks I never got any messages with BT 1571 hence why I had to cancel it and go with the Onetel one.

I don't use the 1571 service myself, don't like to force people to pay when they could have easily heard an engaged tone. I hate phoning people who have it, unless they are TalkTalk customers. The reason why I know BT's 1571 works with OneTel as my sister signed up to them after pressure, but their customer service is so bad she is switching back to TalkTalk.

1571 annoys me, I hate having to pay just because a number is busy or not answered. 1571 was only introduced so phone companies could make more money.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

But a lot of people are on unlimited packages, or on free weekend (and maybe evening) calls with OneTel or Talk Talk, and the rest of the time it is only 2p anyway.

It you are ringing someone that you know has 1571 and you are in your free period - nothing lost by leaving a message. If you begrudge 2p, then only let the phone ring about 5 or 6 times before the answerphone kicks in.

If you are really lucky, they could have been home, missed picking the phone up in 6 rings, dial 1471 and ring you back at their expense.;)

Yes, with 18866 it only works out at 2p, and yes with TalkTalk for me at the moment it is free evenings and weekends, but those 2ps soon add up. If I do ring I try and count the rings once I am aware they have 1571. The trouble is that only works if they are not busy on a call or have picked the phone up to call someone, as you get connected to 1571 straight away.

The other thing is you have to call back anyway because 9 times out of 10 they don't even realise they have a message.

I don't have 1571 myself, but do have a dedicated voicemail number on a 0121 number, just in case someone has to leave a message, and can't contact me on the landline, can't or won't reach me on the mobile, or don't want to send a text.
