Alternatives for when the supermarkets sell out....

A lot of people have never had to make do with what’s in the cupboard. We cook pasta and add sweetcorn and tuna and then toss in a few spoons of salad cream or mayo.
Also pasta, baked beans and melted cheese. Also soup and then fill up with a jam butty.
Not all meals have to be perfectly balanced and if the panic buying carry’s on people might have to learn how to stretch what in their cupboards they’ve got to last that bit longer.

when we were kids sometimes we'd be given a bowl of tomato soup with a dollop of mashed potato in the middle,I know it sounds gross but it was lovely.Tomato soup can also be used as a base for a pasta sauce if you're stuck too.14

I still started married life in the 80s and with a mortgage at 15% and monthly pay it’s amazing what your combinations of food kids will eat if they don’t know better. My eldest still likes salad cream butties now.
We are currently in Cape Verdi. It was a bit freaky at Manchester airport with so few people there on Sunday but we’d paid and they didn’t cancel it so we came. We’re just checking in with the rep regularly to see what’s going to happen next. I have a feeling lots more people will be having to stay at home by the time we get back. I’ve a freezer full of veg, a bit of meat and fish and dried foods and tinned so I’m not panicking about coming home. We’ve never starved yet but I do worry about whether there going to be work to come home to with a lot of the struggling businesses being pushed to breaking point. We definitely live in interesting times.

I never buy passata , I just blitz a can of tomatoes, you can add mixed herbs and garlic powder if you wish.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"9

Can someone help with an alternative to yeast please?I've got a couple of bread mixes which are out of date, but I've read that if yeast is added, it's ok.....but I've failed to buy yeast.Any suggestions gratefully received7

I've plenty of yeast as I buy it in half kilo tins as a regular baker, but I'm also thinking of starting a sour dough culture again. The only problem with that is need for more flour.. You can't win!Fortunately the only person I cook for likes my rye bread and I've a few packets of that!

The cheeky wipes are a cotton washable wipe that you re use. Haven't bought baby wipes since my eldest was a month old. I thought I would try and do the same with tissues for blowing my nose so had a look in the supermarket for some old fashioned handkerchiefs but no luck. I'm glad they didn't have any to be honest as I remembered that I have a bag full of muslin cloths that I have saved from every time they include them with a cleanser. Perfect hanky size and they are just sitting in the cupboard anyway.10
