I need to get out to buy seed compost. I've got multipurpose and seeds and seedtrays. I may need to invest in plug plants later in the spring. I also need to think about where I can plant veg and herbs, as I usually travel a lot for work, so the garden isn't set up for food production.8

anniecave said:Off topic, but the theory is that within a few days things should start to get back to normal, as long as lots of people don't come down sick to the extent that it affects production, deliveries, or shop staffing, or nothing else catastrophic happens.
Lots of people have been panic buying staples, so everyone else hasn't been able to get what they need easily. Everyone else then has to buy more (as they need to make up for what they couldn't buy when they do find some in stock) or people are tempted to buy more as they're not sure if they'll be able to get what they want next time they shop. Some people are probably going repeat times or going at different times of the day to usual to try to get what they want or need.
Once the panic buyers stop, they'll no longer need to buy their staples for the next year, and everyone else should be able to buy what's on the shelves as normal. The manufacturers are still producing, deliveries are still arriving, shops are still open.8 -
You can use baking soda as toothpaste. I think you have to be more gentle if you use it. My dentist told me years ago that he doesn't even use toothpaste, just his electric toothbrush.
I realised I had run out of foil yesterday and I actually stood and thought what did people use before foil? I wrapped my husband's work lunch in an empty bread bag.
Speaking of bread, I am going to stock up on crackers for my store cupboard as they keep a lot longer than bread and I often want carbs for breakfast.
I noticed that the chemist was out of body scrub (it's weird as the makeup section looked very sparse too, strange thing for people to panic buy!) so I bought some ordinary salt from the shop and mixed it with body lotion.2025 GOALS

My main issues are passata and pasta for which I am not sure if there are alternatives. I do have a small amount of 00 flour so I could try to make some myself. I reccy'd the cupboards and freezer and reckon we could do perfectly fine, but if I've got no ruddy pasta our meals are going to be dry as a bone! I've got tinned tomatoes but every time I try to make a spag bol with tinned tomatoes it comes out awful. Not entirely sure what to do there....
We've got plenty of red pesto and coconut milk as well, so we can have curries as I have an entire cupboard full of rice, but same again - no pasta, what do I use the pesto for!
Currently taking a break from making cheese sandwiches to freeze.
My partner is a physio and has been decamped to the hospital to do respiratory physio so I'm thinking I might get covid but not sure. I'm lucky enough to work from home in times of disruption so I am using some of the time to think about batch cooking so that if we get ill we're okay. But again...the easiest thing to feed DS is spag bol. I think I'll be making a 7am trip on Friday morning when I get paid to see if pasta has been delivered.

thriftwizard said:I popped into a large supermarket earlier to pick some tins up for my elderly mother, and was utterly baffled by the shoppers barging their trolleys down the almost-empty pasta aisle, yelling, "OMG! There isn't any pasta!"
There was a full shelf of 55p macaroni... do people not see macaroni as pasta?
Ive got my cheeky wipes that I use for my 2 young sons so we have a backup for if the toilet roll runs out. Going to start using them for myself after a no 1 to make the toilet roll last longer!

no pasta, what do I use the pesto for!----You can make pesto pinwheels by spreading pesto onto puff pastry, sprinkling with parmesan (if available), rolling up like a swiss roll and then cutting into slices. Cover with film and refrigerate approx 20 mins.Bake for 15-20mins at 375deg/gas 5/170deg in fan oven. You can also add crème fraiche to a pan of sautéed chicken breast and then add a dollop of pesto. Stir together and heat until just bubbling.

ETA - don't use these

Don't flush tissues or kitchen roll - they don't dissolve either.
I can see blocked drains being the next big problem people have to deal with...6
