Yeah noticed they had the same names at the bottom of the letter.

They just said that they have recieved the letter and will reply back to me with the contract etc within 12 days (thats why i thought it could be days and not working days, or maybe that was just hope kicking in lol )

I also recieved a letter on the same day from lowell wanting the money etc.
  • The 12+2 starts from the date they received your letter, so maybe check with Royal Mail. As their letter is dated the 6th, they must have received it before then. But from the 6th the 12+2 will be up on the 28th

  • Hi I too have received a letter from Lowells (28.12.07) - collection agency - "Red Debt Collections" saying my details have been sold to them! asking for £959, an outstanding balance on my barclaycard ~ which I don't have. I had a barclaycard 20 years ago and am sure the balance was paid. I am also sure barclaycard would have been in touch in the last 20 years if I owed them money. Which they haven't. I am new to the forum and posted on the credit card site but was directed here from people who gave me good advice. I am about to send the letter and £1 PO. All the advice points to statute barred anyway(for me) but all this really stinks as I heard today LOWELLS buy old debts for a pittance and then send out random letters in the hope for payment. Would still appreciate anybody's experiences/advice as all helps to help others in the same situation and believe me once this is over I won't be letting this go lightly, however I deal with it (not being aggressive but if people do owe money why do the banks employ some lowlife debt collectors to recover it some 6-20 years later and not deal with it at the time?)
    Thanks all in anticipation
  • Lowells and Red Debt are part of the same group.

They specialise in buying debts that are time-barred and firing off a letter in the hope that you panic and pay.

Rog20 is the best contributor to speak to about these characters. He has some good advice.

Whatever you do, don't acknowledge any debt. Send them the letters you wll find on the threads.

They don't as a rule send debt collectors because that is expensive. Send the letters and ignore the company. Good Luck.
  • Hi guyrulius
Forgive me for having a blonde moment but where do I access Rog20's post? I am very new to the forum
    Thanks!

Click here and you will find one post. Then click on the user name (top left) and select "find more posts..." and you will find quite a few.

Otherwise, go to search at the top click forums, then enter "statute barred" and you will find lots about debt over 6 years old.
  • Hi All

I am still quitenew to this forum but can hopefully shed a little light on lowell giving my dealing with them.

Last year they chased two debts of mine which were an old HSBC which was 8 yrs old and statue barred and a club book account. I sent them the SAR letter and said i acknowledged no debt. they replied saying that they would write off the debt for the catalogue and with regard to the HSBC debt it was (a) not statue barred and (b) they did not need to supply this information. I pursued the HSBC matter further and they have not contacted me since and it is not listed on my credit record.

The Catalogue debt has been listed as defaulted on my credit record but i am in the process of trying to get them to remove this as the debt has been acknowledged as unenforceable by them.

I did refuse to deal with them by phone and would only deal with them by letter but if i can help by sending copies of the letter let me know

Happy New Year Everyone! May it be a peacefull 2008 (and debt free)
  • Hello there; am getting the same letter from Lowell & Co. Ive a applicationto the high court for reclaiming over 8grand in bank charges. After the application was closed Abbey stated i had incurred a further 500quid in charges and referred me to a debt collection agency. My sol dealt with the matter and i heard nothing more. Then Abbey instructed another debt collection agency to recover the 500quid, my solicitor yet again dealt with that and nothing was heard again from that company. However recently ive had a letter from Lowell & Co requesting the repayment of 500quid and this is now the 3rd agency Abbey have set upon me, they have threatened to send someone to my door, my solicitor is on holidays and am waiting upon his return. However this company constantly ring my home any advice in the meantime folks. Thanks
