Robin Hood Energy safe to join?

Options
Hi folks, have joined the Cheap Energy Club and looking to change gas supplier.
Best offer is with Robin Hood Energy, having looked on this site it seems to have somewhat mixed reviews with the more recent ones saying it could be about to go under.
Can I ask what are peoples views on changing to this energy supplier?
Thanks

Make sure that you've checked the whole of the market: sadly, the CEC no longer does this.
See whether Citizens Advice and Switch with Which? agree that Robin Hood is the cheapest, and don't forget to compare the cost of separate suppliers, not just dual fuel.

I know its region dependent, but I'd be surprised if Robin Hood offer the best deal - in my region their cheapest gas offer isn't even on the first page.

Arn't Ebico supplied by Robin Hood Energy?

If you look back on this forum, you will see reports from over 10 years ago that they were about to go under.

I suggest you stay away :)

  • Thanks for all replies.
I only looked at suppliers through the Cheap Energy Club it only gave me two suppliers that would save me money (Robin Hood Energy saving £196 and Scottish Power saving £7).
Having looked at the sites Gerry1 gave me I can see there is a lot more suppliers that I can save some money on and as brewerdave says Robin Hood Energy is way down the list.
ForumEye, thanks, I did look at the reviews on this site this was the reason I was a bit wary and asked for some views.

Check out Gulf for gas - I've recently switched to them at a great price of 2.37p/kWh.

Sounds like you set filters on your CEC account; remove them to ensure you carry out a full market energy comparison and receive alerts accordingly :)

OMG, you still massively overpaying from them crooks?

We know someone who is paying just 2.115p per kWh don't we?
May not sound much difference, but with your horrendous alleged use, that could be saving you over £100 per year!

Don't delay, sign up to MSE's Cheap Energy Club today. Not  only will you see who to switch to, but also receive alerts as soon as you can save even more!

You can't get a whole market comparison from the CEC: it's become sadly tarnished because greed has trounced ethics.  Even if you manage to avoid the ambush 'Show me those with OK ratings or better', the CEC will still refuse to show any results from Neon Reef.  Similarly, if you are already with Avro the CEC will refuse to show any Avro results, and presumably will refuse to alert you when Avro launch a cheaper tariff.

    ^^^
Well it saves the poster over £100 a year, and possibly even more.
I think that's a good enough start for anyone :)

I don't think Neon Reef even supplies gas, do they???

I suggest you are being pedantic. The CEC allows you to do a full market comparison, as other comparison sites allow.
(This does not necessarily mean it includes each and every tariff from each and every supplier as exclsuions are permitted under the general understanding of what a full market comparison means. You will alswyas find a supplier or tariff missing from comparison sites for one of the permitted reasons, but at least if you use the CEC, it allows a full market comparison by default unlike a commercial site such as which (which doesn't even off any cashback either evewn when using theoir default setting)

In regards a transfer of tariff with the same supplier, this is only rarely possible via any comparison service, but presumably you know what your current supplier can offer as they are required to notify you if they can offer you a cheaper tariff, and indeed every supplier iI have been with always gives you details of a follow on tariff available from them if your tariff is coming to an end.

Presumably, the CEC does not include the details as Avro does not pay the CEC any commission for exsiting customers, but does do so for new customers, so new customers will get cashback too.

Neither of the sites you suggest pay cashback, so odd you should be recommending them on what is supposed to be a money saving website.

    Edited to add:
You can't even seem to compare gas only on the Citizens Advice website. It has the option, but it just doesn't work for me.

Which? does not even appear to be an Ofgem accredited energy comparison site. Use at your own risk!
