I (Think) we may have lost our money

Firstly I know there is plenty of threads relating to these and I have skimmed through them to a general view but id like some advice if at all possible.

Flying to turkey 12/6/20

GF booked the holiday DIDNT purchase any form of insurance

Balance due on the 20/3/20 (£400 currently paid)

Based on the above information and the fact she didn't get any insurance for reasons beyond me how likely is it that IF I pay the outstanding balance of £1,900 on the 20/3/20 am I likely to lose it in the event that turkey becomes a no go area I am aware its pretty much impossible now to get insurance AFTER the fact in regards covering us what would you suggest GF is going to phone first choice tomorrow to see what they say however im sure they will gladly take the money and keep it in the event it becomes a no go zone (quick easy money I guess)

Any advice apprica tied

You are aware that if the tour operator cancels it you get everything back, dont you? Pay the balance.

The final line of your post is paranoia, plain and simple.

I wasn't aware of that no, but what if the government advises not to travel? or turkey takes same stance as America and says no visitors allowed?

Then the tour operator will cancel and you get every penny back. What are you struggling with here? Do you really think TUI would just keep it all?

However, you wont get every penny back unless you stick to the terms you agreed to and pay the final balance.

    Exactly this.

I am sure you have already had strong words about lack of insurance but at least your GF sensibly purchased a protected package holiday. Commend her for that at least.

BTW - we all have a TUI holiday to Turkey departing 9 May.

On another note the only way this situation gets worse in terms of losing money is if say turkey advise that all newcomers from XYZ destinations are required to be self isolated in there room on arrival and we cancel because of this?

I have seen reports of this NOT being a valid reason to cancel a stay

I have two days in Singapore mid next week then on to Australia for two weeks - all before our relaxing beach stay in Turkey.  My concern is even being able to get back in the U.K. before the Turkey holiday! It is what it is.

Correct. Exactly that for Israel at the moment.

Another benefit of booking that First Choice/TUI Package.  IF it got to that situation I suspect that TUI would pull the plug on their programme and offer refunds. I cannot see them flying people out knowing that they face quarantine at hotels.

I wouldn’t worry about this now. We might both be run over by a bus tomorrow.

Pay your balance, stay within the holiday contract terms. Sort out insurance today while you still can. Forgive the girlfriend and bank the gesture of forgiveness for when you might need it.

After our fortunate experience in April 2010 I vowed always to go for a package holiday deal in future.
We had a package with Thomas Cook in Malta and avoided the dramas of DIY holidaymakers in the same hotel when the Icelandic volcano grounded all flights for 4 days.
We were kept on in same room on same half board basis for no extra cost while the self organised guests were obliged to pay ot find alternative accommodation and return flights,
