I have read this thread with interest as it is a shining example of the sort of rubbish the trolls that live here like to put out. The question was simple and not a reason to trot out left wing or wishy washy liberal clap trap and attack someone who's crime was to ask where was a good place to live down south. I could assume that some of the posters are just scroungers on society who believe that the world is an unfair place that owes them a living because some of us can be bothered to work hard, but I won't because I do not know their circumstances. What I will say is that they are sad individuals who seem to want to share misery around as, and this is only an assumption, their lives are dull sad places and winding people up is the only sport they have.

We could inject soem right wing thoughts obviously the bins etc will be emptied by Eastern Europeans living 30 to a house paying rent so problem solved.

But the British way is that things will muddle along, we are not poor, no one in this country has seen real poor for 50 years, try getting out more to see starving and war torn areas.

However rant over, The Southampton New Forest area is great, If my sale falls over and they can go to £190K They can have mine.

I noticed someone else has mentioned Hastings to Eastbourne on the South coast which I would agree with as a potential good area for your parents. You can still get a nice property for their budget close to the sea and there is still growth in the market for it to increase in value. Both areas are set to get fast train links to London.

Another area worth considering would be the East Kent Coast (Margate/Ramsgate and Braodstairs) where there is a lot of regeneration and are pretty towns and have nice beaches. There are some not so nice roads/areas in these towns (like everywhere!) but in the main by the time they come to retire I'm sure these places will be great.

I see a lot of people have ranted about second home ownership. I say good luck to your parents, if you have worked hard you deserve to enjoy your retirement.

LOL if you've read the whole thread you'de know that the only reason no-one has been poor for 50 years was they were running up in excess of £1.1trillion of government debt... which has to be paid in the next few years.
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

Imagine how poor the baby boomers would be if they'de had to pay that £1.1trillion+ themselves during their lifetime.

I doubt they'de own their own home or car.

Squatnow, you have made some very valid points and I do agree with some of your points. But highjacking this thread is not the way to argue the issue. Why don't you start a thread in the Arms. I answered the op question, not because I agree with 2nd home ownership, for the record I don't, but it is the free market and there are better ways to argue it than to highjack. Maybe start an online petiton at government website??
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:
  • Did you consider these FTB'ers when as your username suggest you bought your BTL's and now flogging them cos they're not making you enough £££££

...it's a place to share views and ask questions - I disagree with the majority of the responses posted but certainly wouldn't think a user with a different opinion to me 'deserves venom thrown at them'.

You've jumped to a huge (incorrect) conclusion based on my username.

The "venom" I was referring to was the poster who called you an idiot........an opinion some might share. Not me though!......Your following comment was nothing more than pure genius:
It's better for those homes to be bought by 2nd home owners used by them during seasons and then rented out during the rest of the years than them sitting empty for years becasue locals can't afford to buy it

I think your parents have done well to save up that much but if they can not find anything they like that they can afford it just goes to show how rediculous the prices are. Perhaps they would be better off visiting areas on the south coast for the next 15 years and keep saving (rather than paying 2 lots of bills) then buy somewhere when they are ready to retire, or if prices go down in the meantime they maybe able to get a lovely place.

    :naughty:

You are wasting your time MERFE....as northernsal has made quite clear:
I wanted recommendations of places on the South Coast for £180,000. Trulysaintly and frannyann are the only ones that actually bothered to answer the question

She only wants a resolution to her "problem" not a wider discussion about the merits, downsides or alternatives of her "solution".

Her parents "deserve" a second home and screw any wider implications of that "need"......you are clearly a "left wing scrounger" for suggesting alternative solutions, be off with you....

You've clearly made an assumption but tried to cover yourself in the eventuality that you are wrong.....for the record,

I'm a graduate with 20 years work without a days unemployment, my tax bill for this year will amount to in excess of £30K, I do not have a BTL portfolio (nor ever have) nor am I against BTL or 2nd home ownership.

I have owned property but don't currently....I certainly don't believe in regulation of housing. I've never voted "left wing" indeed i'm pretty much over to the right.

I do however believe people need to consider the wider implications of their decisions and joined in this debate as I felt those "left wing scroungers" made a valid, intelligent argument to the OP.

There are so many better solutions to the OP's query than which town to buy this damned 2nd property in.
