BA flight delay

Hello fellow money savers.
If people can add their thoughts and any tips regarding flight changes and what compensation one can claim I'd appreciate them
The scenario: I'm currently in Cancun, my flight with BA should leave at 1835hrs, arrive into Gatwick at 0845hrs next day and my flight to Edinburgh would leave at 1010hrs arriving into Edinburgh at 1120hrs.
I'll add all my flights with BA were booked together in one booking.
I received an update on the BA app and email that the flight leaving Cancun is delayed by just over an hour, this will now arrive into Gatwick at 1000hrs next day which will result in me missing the connection to Edinburgh. I've been put on the 1740hrs flight arriving into Edinburgh at 1905hrs, almost 8 hours later!
What should I be looking to claim, food etc?
Thanks for your thoughts.

What is the reason for your 1 hr delay in Cancun?
  • I've not been given a reason yet why the inbound flight has been delayed. This is the first time in all my years of flying I've been alerted the day before to a delay.

Right, so your inward bound flight has been delayed. I believe you are due compensation of €600 per passenger but when you get back home put your flight details into euclaim and then bottonline and see what they say. Other than that when you get to Gatwick you should ask for vouchers for food and refreshment that being lunch and evening meal. If they don't provide you with vouchers buy it yourself and claim back from them.
  • Would these companies not take some commission? Or do they just point me in the right direction of what to tell BA

They will give you a good idea if you have a claim. Bottonline will keep sending you emails to see if you want to use them. You can do the claim yourself. Bottonline and euclaim are reputable companies. If you go down that route I would recommend either

They take around 30% but you don't have any hassle.
But I would advise to do it yourself. Seems straight forward. Don't let BA fob you off by saying your delay was in the UK. Because you had one ticket it covers the whole of the Journey.

Emirates v Gahan is your legal position. If needed just type it into google.
  • Thanks for the info, I tried the website and they said I had a claim. I'll certainly do it myself as what type of Scotsman would I be if I wasn't tight fisted!
