You'll wonder where the hole in your wallet came from (mileage costs compared to the average car).

Not very different. They're both 2.2litre diesels, but the car has an extra gear and a smaller body to lug around. I can get a 3 piece suite into the van or as many 8' x 4' sheets of plasterboard as it takes to do a room, which is the sort of thing that can be handy when renovating or kitting-out  home cheaply.
Ill admit parking the van in the supermarket isn't always a bundle of fun, though!

We have not yet exchanged but are looking to by the end of March with a completion date end of April and are worried about the same thing.  Our solicitor has told us that once a completion date has been agreed and the contracts exchanged, there is no contingency if it cannot take place.  I would assume though that if we are on lockdown the whole country is so will affect all in the chain.  I think most of us would just like to exchange - at least then you know the property is yours - but leave the completion date blank for the time being until we all know more of what is going on.  Don't know if this would be possible though.

No, it would make the contract meaningless if nobody knows when completion is meant to be.

I sold my mothers 2 bed retirement flat in February. I moved everything except her king size bed from Birmingham to Devon in a Honda Jazz in many weekly trips.

Love living in a village in the country side

I'm moving from Lancashire to Bournemouth, Dorset on Monday 30th March. My solicitor is only doing exchange & completion a day apart to avoid self isolation preventing moving out. My contingency is to store my furniture & stat with friends if I & my stuff can't go south
  • Hi everyone,
My husband and I are due to conclude missives on our house on 24th April, and I'm concerned that the mortgage company could potentially decline our offer due to the current crisis... am I being over-dramatic or could this actually happen?

    The former.
  • Hi,
We are currently just about to set a date of the 24th April. Yet to exchange contracts. have been on the fence about the move for a few weeks due to other ongoing health issues in the immediate family but today my wife told me someone she works with has been contacted by their solicitors regarding their move. They have been advised to consider how they wish to proceed as there could be an effect on the value of the property with the current global outbreak.
Personally I'm considering backing out and waiting to see how things go early next year.
  • Biggest issue for me is exchanging and not being able to complete on designated completion date due to forced isolation. This carries a huge penalty for us for something that is forced. No exemptions currently.
