fredsnail said:Hi, I am just about to purchase a new car and want to keep my existing registration number to put on my new car. The registration number is one that came with the car not one that I've purchased separately.
Can anyone advise how I can do this?

The car the plate's coming off will be assigned a new, previously unissued age-related plate.0 -
You want to put it on retention. You can do it instantly online, they allocate a new number, and you print out a little chitty that lets you get the new 'plate made. The fee is £80, so if the dealer will do it for just the £80, when you trade the car in- bite their hand off.You need to get new 'plates made for the number they give you, and put them on the car, and your insurance needs changing over, so you are looking at another £50-£100 to make it happen if you do it yourself..
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

You do not need to get new plates made. You already have a front and back plate for your reg - they're currently on your car.... just take them off and put them on the new car

Or were you thinking of driving it into the dealer and leaping out with the screwdriver in hand so the dealer has to make new plates for the replacement reg.. (Good MSE work there as they can do it cheaper...)
I need to think of something new here...1 -
Are you part-exchanging your old car? If so get dealer to handle the whole process.0

Actually having same reg made temporary insurance cover note for new car easier.
