There are news articles from early January suggesting the governor hinted at a rate cut as the economy was looking a bit slow. Now we are told it is to deal with Corona, doesn't sound too good does it?

Speaking as a man in the street, I happen to believe Corona was here long before it was picked up officially, I was ill in mid December and so were family members with an illness which had the same symptoms, one family member was in very sick for three weeks and had pneumonia. I myself woke up in the night not being able to breathe for a few seconds until I stood up. This has never happened before and I am under 30. I am still taking precautions, but I suspect in the coming weeks the markets will continue to fall as the extent of this situation takes hold. At the same time I think we will quickly recover in terms of normal life, not sure about the markets or economy. But it is hard to tell in these days of clickbait and sensationalism where all this will end.

My spouse and I were both absolutely rotten in December as well, and some of my work colleagues have been independently saying the same thing. The details are blurry three months on, but I do remember being in and out of bed for a week with fever and shivers and it was as if one cold was immediately followed by another. Doesn't prove anything and there's no way to verify whether or not any of us had coronavirus, or whether it was just a seasonal cold. But you're not the only one thinking this.

In hindsight I probably shouldn't have gone to my sports club's Christmas party while still not fully recovered (I had a quiz to run and an awards speech to make, and I also needed to get out of the house). So it turns out that I'm the superspreader and all the slightly accelerated deaths in the UK are probably my fault. Sorry about that.

I've gone for RCI fixed rate 3 years at 1.75%. There a chance that this virus could come in a couple of waves. Like the 1918 flu pandemic came in several waves. (I hope not i hope it just goes away in summer.) 
I've taken a longer fix just in case rates stay low for a while. 
Does anyone know of any negatives about RCI bank?

Bit late now if you've already opened account. They don't get a glowing feedback re. customer service on TrustPilot. But TP feedback for First Direct is poor and I think they're as good as it gets. So perhaps not worth worrying about, especially since you won't be contacting them for 3 years.

What on earth are you going to need customer service for? 

Anyway, I've had an easy access a/c with them since June 2018 and they're fine.
