  • I think they mean use the Halifax debit card to fund the Birmingham Midshire Savings account. I used to have these accounts but closed them a year ago, so can't see if it gives you this option as it only states on the summary deposit by DD.

What happened if I do not want to move to this account and remind in the current Reward current account, will I get £2 if I bank in £750 per month and 2 DD?
The T&Cs are quite clear: If you do not pro-actively choose one of the new rewards, your account gets downgraded. You will no longer get any reward money if you don't chose one of the new rewards as the downgraded accounts do not offer any rewards.

Just spoke to an agent via online chat. I asked the question could the £500 per month be paid to a financial institution i.e. Bank or building society. The agent came back and stated "as long as it's paid by debit card it's fine". So clear cut £500 monthly to a easy access account should be ok. I have a Kent Reliance easy access account which has this facility. At the start I wasn't sure but after studying it, it seems easy money for what's required. Also frees up two direct debit mandates for hopefully a future new reward account with another bank or to link to a donor account of a great switch incentive comes out requiring direct debit mandates.

Yes, of course you're right. I don't know what I was thinking! This is driving me nuts!

Excellent news! I just checked my Kent Reliance and note that there is actually a minimum amount of £10 when funding via debit Card.

I wonder if it will be ok to do a round robin of funding several Halifax Rewards accounts with the required £1500, before launchng the £500 debit card payments from each of them?

You might be able to. I have set up "proper" SOs from an external account myself. I will make a £1,500 debit card payment from each account as I won't keep any money in Halifax.

I just checked Birmingham Midshires, but cannot see any method of making a debit card payment into those accounts.
Possibly PayPal might be of use, as already stated. But, does anyone know if PayPal levy any charge for shunting money in and/or out?
