Good evening all
I have annual travel insurance through Lloyd's with my current account.
I recently booked return flights from Guernsey to London and a packaged hotel and football ticket for Tottenham through one of their authorised ticket sellers. The trip was for myself and my 80 year old father.
Due to the football TV schedule the match was moved from the Saturday afternoon to the Friday evening. I had to look at changing the flights. The airline Aurigny sent me an email to say our flights had been rescheduled as they had changed the number of rotations to Gatwick. They had automatically moved us to 7am flight and I needed to confirm this was ok. Now my father would not be great at flying at that time of morning because of his age so we discussed it and decided we would not go because of the flight changes.
I contacted the football package sellers and when I explained that the flights had changed and we would not be able to make the event they said they could not offer a refund or credit note for an future event, despite telling me previously that a credit note would be possible.
We are now out of pocket because of the game being moved and us not able to make the rescheduled date. We have cancelled the flight to the UK and got a full refund on that. It's just the UK package seller that is standing firm and not agreeing to a refund or credit note. I'd be happy with the credit note as this was a gift for my father and we plan to go over in the future.
Any guidance for UK policy on this would be fantastic.
Thanks in advance
Phil

We have booked 6 flights and non-refundable accommodation in Guernsey for July. The flights have been cancelled and refunded, because Guernsey is not letting people in. However the hotel will not offer a refund (because our booking was non-refundable), but said we can use the deposit (which was actually full payment for peak season) for alternative dates in the next 12 months. Surely if the hotel cannot provide the accommodation because Guernsey is not letting people in, then we should be entitled to a refund? Or should we wait until nearer the time?

The hotel can provide the accommodation - it's you who won't be turning up.
Being allowed to move the date is a strong result though.0 -
WobbleGsy. You'll need to check the full T&C of the package company. If you booked for an event on a certain date and time, and that is no longer happening, it would seem logical that a refund should be given. If you get no joy from them you need to contact your credit or debit card provider.

That's different. Obviously if it's not open, you will expect a refund.0
