Council closes road to create moneybox.

Options
It seems they are closing a road to all except permit holders (can they do this) which forces drivers onto another road with nasty box junction. How low can they go.

I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

It will only take 1 hardnut to buy a £100 metro, round up some of his mates for security, and take the yellow box at its word so to speak. Result total endless gridlock until someone does something about it.

How long before someone contests that in court?  How can someone have a visitor without them
getting a ticket or have a delivery without a ticket being issued?

Surely a parking permit has no bearing on thru-traffic.  Wonder which councillor lives on that street?

They're LOCAL roads for LOCAL people.

Probably also where some councillors live.

'Residents complained that 400 vehicles a DAY' were using one street. That's about a car every 2 minutes over just 13 hrs. Why do people buy houses in the inner city and then object to the traffic density of rural Norfolk?

This is the road in question.

It's not a through-route to anywhere. The only reason anybody would use it is as a rat-run to get off the trunk route. This is the junction that it avoids.

This is the box junction it "avoids" - except it doesn't. And people who can't cope with the concept of a box junction deserve everything they get.

The only time using Harwood Terrace would avoid the box junction is going between Imperial Road and the Chelsea end of the A308, then why not just go past Imperial Wharf station and up Lots Road?

Frankly, the rat-runners have brought it on themselves. My sympathy is with the residents.

Given that my local council is "consulting" about stopping rat-running with concrete bollards that force all traffic to use the South Circular...  I'd rather have a camera and permit system (tied to the existing resident parking permits - or is that too much like joined-up thinking?)
I need to think of something new here...

My council did that, closed road completely so it's now a dead end. By chance a councillor lives on that road :D

People don't seem to be forced to move into the yellow box when the exit isn't clear, do they?

Of course I can understand wanting to avoid a box junction, as they can queue back for ages. I don't think anyone is concerned about using the junction itself.... it's the traffic...

There are junctions where the boxes, light phasings and traffic flows mean that you can effectively choose between:
    1. obeying the box and being totally unable to move.
    2. disobeying the box, receiving a fine, but actually making it to your destination.
the suspicion is that these situations are engineered deliberately (hence the term "moneybox")
There are also parts of the country where taking option 1. above will lead to threats of, or enaction of, violence.
So, forced? Not forced? ho hum.
