the MSE article should provide some clarity (link removed)Raposinha said:Thank you. I have no plans to cancel at this stage as I would still love to be able to go. Am just trying to understand where I stand with regards to getting a refund if it turns out that we it's recommended we don't travel. I don't know if my policy covers me if the airline doesn't cancel the flight.
there is a table that shows how different insurers treat different situations0 -
My concern was mainly around if the airline is still flying to the destination but FCO have advised against travelling. Flights are booked with Easyjet. I have paid a deposit for the accommodation, which I don't think I will get back, but the balance is due on arrival so if I don't go I won't lose any more. The flights were around £750 so would like to get some or all of it back if we are being advised not to travel. As I mentioned above I have no intention of cancelling yet, just would like to know what my options are.lisyloo said:Thrugelmir said:Who are you flying with? Maybe some casaulties in the airline industry given the current turmoil. Not sure of the relevance here as there are other ways to get to Italy e.g. by train. In the current situation the overriding reason for cancellation would be FCO advice. In normal times if an airline fails you would try to get another flight or possibly a train, so one failed airline would not justify cancellation. Insurance companies expect you to mitigate losses so if covered for airline failure they would pay for new flights not cancellation. If you mean FCO could be OK but airline could fail, then that is a different question and depends on the policy and options purchased.0 -
Looks to me that you are NOT covered.
You are not covered under this policy for the following scenarios:
• If you no longer want to go on holiday.
• If the Foreign and Commonwealth office advises against all but essential travel.

I would check if your hotel is cancellable or did you buy a non-refundable rate?If you did your holiday DIY and bought your insurance DIY and have non-refundable fares then I'm afraid it would be your responsibility in that situation, so you'd be at the mercy of the airline and hotel to transfer your bookings to a different date.0

What a rubbish insurer, that's the whole of insurance to cover the unexpected.lisyloo said:Looks to me that you are NOT covered. You are not covered under this policy for the following scenarios:

I am in the same position due to fly out to PIsa In May and with Sainsbury insurance, will be cancelling and claiming flights only, don't have travel disruption cover but something I will definitely consider now"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

It's not a hotel. We booked direct with an agriturismo place to go glamping in Tuscany. Paid on credit card (deposit only) so not sure if Section 75 would cover this??lisyloo said:I would check if your hotel is cancellable or did you buy a non-refundable rate?If you did your holiday DIY and bought your insurance DIY and have non-refundable fares then I'm afraid it would be your responsibility in that situation, so you'd be at the mercy of the airline and hotel to transfer your bookings to a different date.0 -
What are the terms of the booking?
Ive looked up your insurance for you but you really need to looking at this yourself.
section 75 won’t cover you if the accommodation is provided and available.
if you’ve only paid a deposit then it doesn’t sound like you have much to lose (only the deposit) but you need to check the terms which in this case is hard for someone to do for you.0
