  • My gran always used to say it had to be a silver coin. She also siad getting gloves as a present was bad luck (a sign of someone departing!)

    It's called hanselling (sp?) but that could just be a Scottish term? it's also good luck to give a new baby a coin the 1st time you see it. Is that a Scottish thing or do people do that elsewhere?

    i agree with prettypennies it has to be a silver coin and yes again i agree with Violetta it is good luck to give a new baby a piece of silver{50p piece 20p piece} and dont you have to cross their palm with it as well?
