I seem to remember something about it being tradition to put a coin in a purse when giving it as a gift. Am I going nuts?

A coin in a purse is meant to mean the person receiving it will have good luck in terms of money. You are supposed to put a coin in the pocket of a new coat too as this means you will never go short of money.Old enough to know better, too young to care!0

Yep, a new shiny coin.
I can't remember what it is with scissors either, but I think you're right. I know if you buy knives as a wedding gift the recipent is supposed to give a coin in exchange (so the gift doesn't sever the friendship), maybe it is the same thing.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -

I think this tradition really works-I bought a bag from ebay and the seller very kindly put a coin and a little note in for luck-Since then I have not been skint and have had bits of good luck after a very difficult few years.Must remember to do the same when I give purses and handbags as gifts this xmas.Love can tame the wildest0
