Sold Car, Buyer wants money back, threatening court
Hello
I have seen numerous posts involving people selling cars and then the buyers asking for their money back, however i just want a piece of mind for my situation. I sold a car around the end of january and the car was in full working condition, the reason i kept it for a short amount of time was because around july 2019 i had to stop driving due to medical reason and i bought the car in feb 2019, so basically i drove it for around 5 months and i never had any issues with it, so from july 2019 to the date it was sold i ensured the engine was healthy and i got someone to drive it around making sure the car was always mechanically sound which it was, on the day of the sale the buyer came with a friend and they both inspected everything, they checked the service history, MOT history, the interior and exterior of the car and they also took it out for a test drive. i also explained to them my reason to not being able to drive. they were happy with the car and they drove it home. i then get a message one week later saying the boot of the car randomly keeps opening?, however i never ever had this issue regardless i thought i would help them out and i directed them a link for a fix, they then sent another message a week later stating the car has electrical problems, again something i have never experienced, i get ANOTHER message a week later stating their frustration with the car, and then believe it or not a week later i get ANOTHER message saying that they want some sort of compensation or they are going to be getting legal advice, however i apologized and said that there is nothing i can do. i cannot provide the compensation as i am going to be driving again soon and i want to use it towards another car. i got a voicemail a few days ago stating that they want my family members number other wise they "WILL take me to court". somehow they also got my family members workplace number and facebook profile and they have been asking for them. i'm getting really worried now, hopefully you guys can enlighten me
i'll try and answer any questions when i can
main points are:
-the car was always perfect to me and i was gutted that i had to sell it
-they checked the car fully and took it for a test drive
-coincidentally these problems started coming up out of the blue as soon as i sold it?
-it was a private sale
cheers

Ignore them1

It's entirely possible these issues are related to the car sitting around for six months unused - but you explained that to them pre-purchase.
They don't have a leg to stand on. Ignore them completely, and ask back in this thread about how to respond to any court claim in the unlikely event it arrives.3 -
thank you for your help, i told them multiple times that the car was sitting around and that we took it out every now and then to make sure the engine it still running smoothly0

Report them to the police for harassment if it carries on.
Also, what is the link to your family member and why is the buyer bothering them?Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....1 -
just ignore and dont enter into further conversation with them. You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *1

my mother and i'm asking myself the same question0

If you have kept a copy of the advert and receipt for the money they paid you then just wait. Nothing will happen, and if it does don't worry, unless you have mis-described the car or you are a trader posing as a private seller then you wont have to pay them anything.0
