True but I'm  making the point that investing in a good modem router will beat the pants off the rubbish that is provided by most ISPs.

I would set each regular (i.e. family owned) device to be static fixed IP and not dhcp(automatic). If necessary change your router to have two different SSIDs eg Lucynet and Lucynet5. But I prefer my router over the ISP one, mine is asus , but if you have problems with your WAN then most ISPs expect you to be using their (usally) crappy routers e.g. Techicolor.

Thanks so much for all the replies, sorry for the delay getting back! Just a quick update - we've moved to EE and it's all working fine with the new router, and so everyone is happier. I'm so naffed off that Plusnet has been so poor in helping us to fix this, we've had so many engineers out over the past while to no avail, and not much other help or advice from them at all. We might have saved a lot of time if they'd been a bit more on the ball so that's a shame.

Anyway  it's made me less scared to move internet providers as the transition was pretty seamless unlike when we moved house, so that's a positive!

Thanks again for all of your help and suggestions,  I really appreciate it!
    Best wishes
    Lucy
