I never thought of that ..Martin_the_Unjust said:
Have you any idea what copious amounts of pooh nesting swallows produce? I hope you don't have any windows, paths etc under the swallow box or you are really going to regret that decision.jockserb said:Swapped it for a swallow box .....Sorted0 -
Martin beat me to it. We don't mind the house martins/swallows on the side eaves, but have to keep spraying the eaves over our bedroom window to deter them from building. We left it too late one year and the mess they made on our window was unbelievable ! You'd have been better off with the bat box.Martin_the_Unjust said:

I have half a dozen bat boxes dotted around, no birds in any of them.
I have a pretty big natural pond on my land and love to sit at dusk and watch the bats dive-bomb the pond for insects. Beautiful creatures.2 -
Bats chew the wings off moths and leave those as detritus in our barn. There is some poo, but that's minor compared with what the swallows produce. As for the pigeons, they're 'dissuaded' from nesting in there.....that's if the jackdaws don't nick the sticks from them. Jackdaws: nature's answer to Del Boy Trotter.
